Window Tint and Wierd Laws

So both of my vehicles arrived in Hawaii on Wednesday (i just got stationed here). I finally got to the inspection station today for the safety inspection.

My truck passed with flying colors...no surprise

then the car...I had to remove tail-light tinting, mid brake-light tinting, and then the most ultimate of evils...the door and rear window tinting. I knew they were dark, but I had no idea how dark. 20% all around. I bought her with it already tinted. apparently the law is 35%

anyways, the point of this post is weird laws. I can legally (in Hawaii) tint all the windows in my truck or SUV as dark as I want...well, except the front of course...the inspection guy said "you can spray paint the windows black if you want"...but a car must be 35% or lighter

now ain't that wierd? oh well, now I can get that relective silver tint to match my cars paint. and I might get me some 20% for the rear windows on my truck...it's all about adapting and overcoming

p.s. the **** retentive guy didn't even noticed my car was dropped 2" from stock either...wonder what his priority is?

its that way in most states- trucks are not classified as 'passenger' vehicles, so keeping direct views in/out all windows is not required (figure you've got a load in the bed-and its blocking the rear...) you could cover all but the direct drivers side window and the front windshield

At least you didn't have to run your truck through the Recon inspection. Just another way for the state to squeeze $15 out of you if you ask me. I had to go through it and failed the first time because I needed to put mud flaps on my truck. Now I can't take them off without running the risk of getting a ticket.

If you modify your truck in any way (even if you install aftermarket wheels) you have to go through the recocn inspection (cars & trucks have to do it). If the guy would have caught your car being modified you would have had to do the recon before the safety inspection. I have seen plenty of modified vehicles tough without it, either they know someone or like you had someone who just didn't pay attention.
