Cam Phaser

How much would it be to have them replaced? This knocking is driving me crazy and i heard you can get better gas mileage if you get it fixed.

For those of you that have had them replaced, is the knocking gone? did you get better gas mileage?

Thanks

Had mine replace the first month I had the truck, 75,000 miles and almost 3 years later and still no knock. I can't really comment on gas mileage because the truck was still so new when I had it done, the engine wasn't even broke in yet, so hard to say if the mileage improved from engine break in or the cam phase fix. No significant improvement though.

i just had it done
both cam phasers , $1200
can't tell if the mileage increased. just been a week

before you spend the money. make sure it is not an exhaust leak.
my engine is much quieter, but I STILL HAVE AN EXHAUST LEAK, which was what made me finally bring it in, thinking all the noise was the cam phasers

I have read others having problems with the exhaust gasket too.

Guess I can let you know in a few days. They are doing mine this morning and also replacing all the lifters. Had the phasers changed the first time at around 10k miles. All was quiet until lately. Now I'm at 30 k and the tick is baaaack! I have noticed also that the mileage has dropped from around 14.5-15.0 on my commute down to 12.5-13.0 but I don't know if its related or not. I will post pics while they are working on it....anxious to see how it looks from 30k miles on Mobil 1.

From what I've heard, it should have no impact on MPG. I had an exhausts leak and it makes any noise (Phaser/Lifter/dry start) much more pronounced. Beleive me, you'll know if you have an exhaust leak. If not right away, within 3 months...
