What happened to cheap wheels?

My 17" Pro Comp 1089s were inexpensive at the time, $119.00 a piece on sale. I got out the door with 4 mounted, balanced, with lugs, taxes, the whole enchilada for $600.00, but I did NOT pick the 1089s because they were cheap. (The MB Motoring wheels were cheaper) I picked them because they were one of two designs I had seen that I actually thought looked good, and weren't belly button common like the MM 951s are...
