Question Exhaust Pipe near Differential Cover

I just ordered a Mag-Hytec rear differential cover, but wanted to run something by you guys.

I have the Roush exhaust and one of the pipes is routed so it passes along in front of the diff cover, near the top. According to Mag-Hytec, their diff. cover has an overall height of 3.5". I measured, and I'll have about .5" of clearance between the diff. cover and the exhaust pipe.

Does anyone think there will be a problem with heat? I'm not too worried about it, it looks like I can adjust my exhaust to get a little more clearance if need be, but I'd rather not have to mess with it. Just looking for your thoughts, thanks.

I'm also planning on running Royal Purple 75W-140 in it.

I would be more worried about the pipe coming into contact with the cover when you hit a bump or have a heavy load in the truck. Anything that causes the suspension to move to a position other than normal ride height.

As for the heat issue. My guess would be it probably wont matter. But you could always wrap that section of the pipe with exhaust heat tape or something.

FWIW,

Brian

Ever feel how hot a diff gets after driving on the freeway?! It is about as hot as your exhaust at that section of the pipe. So you should be more worried about the clearance issues rather than heat issues.

I've heard that before too and I can't say for sure how hot. I can tell you that when I had my exhaust dumped BEFORE the axle it heated the axle up and burnt some of the fluid up. The guys that redid my gears noticed. I changed to dump OVER and I haven't had any problems. If it was me I'd get it adjusted, it isn't worth burning up the axle...
