changing my exhaust

2004 5.4L 3V extended cab.

I am changing my exhaust set-up. Let me know what you guys think of these options. Both options are straight pipe. No mufflers for me.

1) Side exit in front of rear passenger tire. I will keep the factory Y-pipe and run a single pipe to a double slash cut tip.

2) X-pipe duals out the back corners 45 degrees from rear. Single slash cut tips.

Will getting the X-pipe with give me a good performance gain over the Y-pipe. Yes, I did do a search, but I can't find any good answers on this.

Thanks - Any and all opinions and info are welcome

ps - I am selling my my magnaflow 16612 si/so system jimc2004@hotmail.com if interested.

I have mine in front of the passenger rear tire, like a lightning... I love it. I have never been a big fan of the 45's out the back... Kinda makes me think of a ghetto Impala or something. I would run the x pipe then duals out the side in front of the rear tire. The x pipe is definatly a good choice, if I ever really get into my exhaust, that is one of the first things I will do.

The x or h pipe would be a good choice if the legnth of the manifolds to them were the same length. (equal distance) Now because they are not, using a y-pipe works. So in the end exhaust is about sound and not performance on these trucks. Reverse supercharging works but no one cares enough to understand. My exhaust is a bassani 'lightning style' si/do and i have no compliants. The sound is exactly what i was looking for.

reverse supercharging? I'm thinking of a couple things... is it the one that the exhaust is threaded to make it flow better?

I would do option 2. That is the way I have exhaust routed on my work truck, with the tips turned so that the slash cut runs with the body. I have never liked the exhaust in front of the tire, to me it just looks wrong, but again thats just me.

x-pipe

i recommend the x-pipe- on my 04 van with the 255hp-350 ft lb 2 valve older 5.4- i used the x,-magnaflow mufflers-2.25" tubing on my duals-i made over 300 ftlbs of tq at 2500 rpms and it stayed at the 300 ft lb level until 4300 rpms-very broad!-this was on troyers dyno-i can say this- if idin't have the x-my van wouldn't have the tq it needs to haul almost 9k lbs around-phil
