Heater Core Problems

Anyone else had problems with your heater core leaking??

I have an 05 FX4 s-crew. Back in January the heater core had to be replaced. Friday afternoon, I started smelling anti-freeze again and the windows fogged up. The truck was still under warranty in January. Now it has 42,000, and is not under warranty anymore.

I called the dealer today, thinking that since it has been less than 12 months since they changed it the first time, they would cover it this time, Wrong!!!

Apparently if I had paid any portion of the repair the first time it would have been covered by the 12 month warranty. But, Since it was paid for by Ford, the warranty expired with the original truck warranty.

I'm going to the dealer in person tomorrow. Maybe I'll have better luck.

That just sounds wrong to me. You would think that they could work something out for you just in the interest of customer relations. It's completely abnormal for a heater core to fail after only 12 months. Either they damaged the core when they installed it or it was damaged when they got it. Maybe get in touch with Ford customer service and see if they can help.

How many miles ago did you have the heater core replaced? Most places do 12 months/12,000 miles for a warranty after repairs.

It had around 32,000 when it was replaced the first time.

I was told if Ford pays for a repair under the factory warranty, the 12 month/12,000 warranty will not apply.

It was only warrantied for the remainder of the factory warranty.

That's a bunch of BS!!

My truck is only two years old, and now the heater core has had to be replaced 2 times.

The dealer is calling Ford to see if they will do anything. If not, It will cost me $1,000 to have it replaced.
