u-bolts

Hey guys,

I just put the ground force shackles on my truck and when we tightened the u bolt nuts, we just did it until it was really tight. Is it going to be a problem if one side is tighter than the other side? Or is it fine just as long as its tight? If so, what do I need to torque them to? I need an answer fast please. The truck rides awsome but idk if im messing something up.

your suppose to tighten from corner to corner like your making an X, kinda like how your suppose to make a star when tightening lug nuts. just get them as tight as possible.

It's called German Torque.

I've only used German Torque Ratings since the age of six.

Me too, I'm German. Well, at least 50%, but I round up.

my dad once told me when I was 16 that German Torque, or "star torque" isn't allowed when I'm the one doing it.

then again, I am 6'3" and 260lbs...I have a nasty habit of twisting bolts off

torque that axle down. tight is good for now, but improper torque can allow it to shift and break stuff. you can rent a torque wrench from most auto parts stores for pretty cheap.

Best I recall, it was 81 ft-lbs on each nut.

I torqued them all tighter though.

Make sure they're more on the tighter side instead of the looser side. Trust me!
