Tire Pressure Sensors

So I swapped from my factory 18's to some 17's....

My 17's don't have the sensors. I realized this cause I got this annoying little light that comes on when I turn the truck on.

Any way to get rid of the pressure sensors. I know when my tires are low instead of bucking up the $200+ to swap them over.

Nope, live with the light. Have searched and asked around, no way to disable, and illegal to disable, not that that would stop me, but have found no way to do it.

Cough up the dough and put the bands on the new wheels, improvise a band replacement has some have done, or pioneer a how to on pulling the bulb for the light and you'll be praised.

It sucks. I paid almost 150 to get my sensors off the original 17s and new band and sensors on the 20s. But I had discount tire give me a discount off the price of new tires and rims

Take the sensors, put them in a pieace of round pvc pipe. Seal the ends with caps, put an air valve on it. Fill it with 30 some pounds of air. Hide it in your truck somewhere. I haven't done this on my truck, because i don't have the sensors. I did it for a freinds car, and it worked. Just have to make sure it's sealed good.

Damn Congress.
I can't blame Congress for this one! Remember the Firestone tires on the Explorers? People loaded 7 of their 300 pound friends into those cars, along with enough luggage for a circus train, and drove across Arizona at 100 miles an hour with tires that had not been checked for two years. Then, when the tires gave out, they slammed on the brakes and couldn't imagine why the thing rolled over!

Ford got sued for driver stupidity. Firestone got sued for driver stupidity. Arizona got sued for driver stupidity. The dealerships got sued for driver stupidity. Their dogs and cats got sued for driver stupidity.

Unless and until people take responsibility for their own actions, we're going to have to put up with these stupid defensive laws. The alternative is to have no American companies at all!

Won't work, already did that. The Ford sensors have 2 settings, speeds above 20mph and parked. At 20mph+ they send out a signal every 60 seconds. Parked they send a signal every 60 minutes. When driving the TPMS looks for a signal every 60 seconds. If it does not get it it turns the light on. After parking for a while, the light will be turned off, but it does take a couple of hours.

Does anybody know how long these damn TPMS things last? Are we all going to have the dealer replace them in a few years when the batteries run out? Thanks

My understanding is that with the 2 settings (moving and parked) the batteries should last 7+ years.

Anyone dig into the potting on a sensor yet? I'm going to as soon as I get a spare. Hopefully there will be an adjustment on the board. I'll post when/if I get around to this.

not much to dig around on, they are sealed, and very well might I add. There are 2 companies working on valve stem replacements that work with the ford setup, but they are not quite finished. If you guys check out dill air products, they make replacement sensors and bands for wheels from 14" to 26" and at a reasonable price might I add.
