Pinging Edge

Will someone please refresh my memory as to what causes pinging? I am running level 2 edge and even when I put 89 octane in the tank, I still have pinging (I usually just run 87). Also I have been out of commission for a year or so on this forum and was wondering if there were any updates for my edge that I may be missing. Thanks in advance.

Just updated edge to version 27...anyone know what's new with this version compared to my old version (I am pretty sure my last version was 22)? Also anyone tried the beta 28 version?

Hi.

Yep - things have indeed changed. Search for posts by ASE Mechanic - there are some updates to the calibrations that fix several issues folks have been having. His name is Bill, and you should thank him - he's doing this on his own dime. BTW - post up your hardware rev, firmware rev, and calibration hex code ( see yer manual for how to do this) - this will help Bill when he stops by.

As for pinging, if you do not have a carbon buildup issue or mechanical problem, is usually a result of low-quality fuel. You should not be audibly pinging on quality 87 on level2 with stock settings.

For now - try tank of name-brand gas ( Shell, etc) and/or pull some advance ( again, in the manual).

EDIT - just saw your second post - again, a couple of Bill's posts have a list of the variuos updates available ... search, buddy, lol.

Good luck.

If the Edge update doesnt help, Go back to stock and see if it still does it. Stay at stock for a few drive cycles. If none of this helps consult Bill.

I use mostly EXXON gas as it is closest to my home. Fuel and air filter regularly maintained etc.

Bootloader v1.00a
Firmware v22
Calibration v27
HEX file RXCM5E4

Still wondering if v28 would be OK to upgrade to or should I stay at v27?

EXXON ? Not known for it's energy content, lol. Are there any other choices?

Agreed. I get about 1mpg better using Shell fuel over Exxon. Exxon is the closest/most conveient to my home, but since I get better mileage w/ Shell I go a few blocks out of the way to use it.

I had trouble with Exxon. I have no problems with Shell, Texaco and Conoco.

Try Techron fuel system cleaner in the tank.
