Angry 2007 Supercrew with thin paint???

I own a Oxford White 2007 Screw. Yesterday I was claying the hood before waxing and noticed that on the pass. side towards the front of the hood, the paint was sprayed so thin that you can see grey primer underneath. This pi$$ed me off so I started looking around at the rest of the truck.
In the wheel wells, very thin paint. Again you can see the primer.
Under the doors is the worse part. There are spots that there is almost no paint but it seems to have been cleared as it is smooth to the touch.

I am heading to the dealer after work to hear what they have to say. Has anyone noticed the same thing? Is this common? It's kind of pathetic but I bought the truck new 10 months ago and just noticed this...

I hope you get that resolved, although after this time Ford will probably put up a fight. I will say the paint on my 06 is the best quality paint job I have ever had on a vehicle. My headlights have rock chips all over them but my hood and bumper paint is perfect. After throwing muddy tow straps on my hood during recovery and many passes through the car wash it still looks great. Good luck

Inside the wheel wells would be very common. Under the doors might happen from time-to-time, and since it is cleared, will likely cause no long term issues. On the hood, all I can say is that since it has taken you over 10 months to notice it on one of the most visible body panels on the truck, it can't be too bad!

Reality -- factory paint jobs aren't going to look like something that came out of Chip Foose's shop. I can take you out into my garage right now and show you flaws in the paint of my '05 Escape and my '05 F-150.

Oddly enough, my lowly old '97 Ranger came with one of the best factory paint jobs I've ever seen, and I have yet to find a flaw in it that wasn't inflicted by the owner (me).......:o

The paint on the hood looks great outdoors and is only noticable when looking really close under perfect lighting (yes... examining it). I am going to show them anyway and see what they say.

I really don't know if I want them to repaint it if they even offer. I am not sure they could/would do a good enough job so I don't find overspray or masking marks. When it comes time to sell, it then looks like there was a "reason" why it was repainted instead of poor factory paint that is not that noticable.

I guess I am a little disappointed in how poor their spraying technique was. Whether under the doors or not, I expected it to be a little more uniform.

It looks like much hasn't changed sense 2004 in the F150 paint dept.
Mine was pretty bad, it HAD thin spots all over too.

I even waited 2 months on them to correct the paint issue do to the QA hold at the time for the two tone paint issues.
Then another month for the bed 5.5 issues. Then another 6 months for them build the frame for the 133" wb truck. Even at top prority code. It took almost a year to get mine when I ordered it 2004.

What plant was you truck built at?

I love everything about the truck but the paint. That is my only complant about it. The OEM paint just sucks!

The truck was built at Dearborn. Did they end up repainting the affected areas for you?

I stopped by the dealer after work and showed the service manager. He was surprised to say the least and said he had never seen this bad (love hearing that). I have to talk to the Bodyshop manager tomorrow to see about the best way of fixing it. I am really torn on what to do.
Get them to paint the problem areas or just leave it. I really hate the idea of a fairly new truck needing paint work already...

FWIW, I think even a thin factory paint job will probably hold up better then what the dealers bodyshop can do.

The area behind the tailgate on the bed is the worst part on my 07. What plant was yours built at? Mine is Dearborn.

this sounds ****ty....

I am curious as to what you decide to do though.

FWIW if you do get any sort of touch up work make sure it's Thoroughly documented by the dealer so you can prove/show any future owners what had happened if they ask.

This is exactly why I don't know if I want it repainted. With the way it is now, a future owner would just see it was a crappy OE paint job. We'll see what the bodyshop says. I want them to check the thinkness of the rest of the paint too.
Hmm... I always thought that I should have bought an F250... maybe this helps my cause...

Not so bad. My silver 2007 SCREW was missing the silver paint on the inside of the rear passenger door. Not only was the inside part of the door itself not painted (well, it was the white primer, or whatever they use), but the sill and sheet metal of the cab was not painted. Baffled the body shop guys - they had never seen such a thing. Funny thing is, the entire truck had been clear coated and inspected and still no one saw the problem - it took me 3 months before I noticed!!

If it makes you feel better, the paint on my Jeep Commander really leaves something to be desired. Horrible orange peel and places where there are very visible paint runs.
