LOL .. Sorry but I'd have to see that to believe it.

I had a bull bar and it was a piece.

I use the GoRhino Hitch Step as my "protector" from folks hitting my bumper, exhaust pipe tips, etc. Oh, and I've backed into a fence/wall/car or three as well ... just wasn't paying attention to my RSS.

You may have to hit the GO button or REFRESH the page after you open this image link ... the web host server is picky about images.

at wally world they sell this trailer/hitch lock kit for about $20...it has a gorilla on the locks. 1 for reciever, 1 for trailer and use a common key. I've had them on my trucks for 4 years now and they work as good now as when new. they have little sleeves that cover the key holes and survived being submerged in water and mud numerous times

what kind of hippy state would make it illegal to just have one in there? what's better:

1. car run underneath truck bed?
2. hitch stop car before it can go under?

it's going to be a bad wreck no matter what

Next time buy a quality bar so you won't have to worry.

Yup, you're right. I guess, Westin products are garbage .. you never mentioned what brand your bull bar was? It looks like one of the ones from Ebay.

The picture doesn't show me any $4000 worth of damage. I see broken lights, big deal.

I had one taken while parked in a heated underground parking with security in downtown Toronto. I've since always taken it off, but with this truck I'm finding I leave the hitch on most of the time. I have a nice Ford cover as well, and now I use a lock, so I'm not all that concerned about leaving the hitch and ball in the receiver.

I didn't mean to offend you so sorry about that. I just have seen bull bars actually cause more damage than good by crushing into the upper bumper and grilles. Anyways back to your regularly scheduled thread.

Oh, and as for the lock seizing, I've been through one winter with mine and so far so good. Just spray a shot of silicone every once and a while, plus it has it's own rubber cover which helps seal out water.

That shot of silicone would have helped. I used to offroad my old truck quite often and I think the mud and water is what did it in. My Ford lives a much easier life so hopefully this one wont lock up on me

Westin is garbage Thump

Anywho, I made a hitch cover out of 1/4 in plate that I had on my old 99 and it saved me some bumper damage a time or two. I have no idea what I did with it, or I would have it on this truck too.

Never keep a hitch and ball in there...I find away to run into those things every time Im around them, F that. Make me shins hurt.

I'm sure glad I live in Texas, because that is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. If i had to take mine out and put it back in I would be doing it all the time. As far as someone walking by and hitting their leg on it, I guess they should have been watching where they were going.

I could never make the transition.
I remove it and put it behind the seat as soon as I'm done with it.
Over twenty years of truck ownership and I think I've hit shin three times and it hurt like a mother.

Also been rear ended once in those 20 years and the angle would have missed a drawbar anyway.

With a record of 3-1 , it goes behind the seat.
Other vehicles don't bother me, I'd never get that close to someone else's truck.

That's why I take my hitch out. My kids and wife would constantly be tearing body parts up with it. Mine is empty now. I do have a Ford oval I put in occasionally though.
