Remote Starter

Just a simple question.

Has anyone added a aftermarket remote starter to their truck?

If you have which one and how difficult was it to add?

I just added a Viper 560XV which is a alarm system with remote start. I love it. I can go out on the 6th floor balcony and hit my truck up in the parking lot....which should be great during this winter! I watched the installer do the whole install..and all I can say is I wouldn't of been able to pull it off myself.

do a search on ebay for remote starters. i bought one there and put on my f150. it was a bulldog. they have a website that has all the instructions there so you can get an idea of the difficulty. i think i paid about 40 bucks for it. you will need the bypass module and an extra key. they have the wiring diagrams and wire colors for all model trucks on the site.

Talk to this guy http://www.kcautosound.com/home.phpKCAutoSound. Tell him F150Online sent you.

He used to be VERY helpful on this site but I think he took a position that takes more of his time. He had packages that included photos for the DIYer and will prewire the alarm specifically on our trucks.

The Code Alarm CA-650 was a popular model. I see it has a new remote itself.

EDIT: Or maybe it was the 670. I forgot what I even have but my remote looks like the 670.

I'm about to order a CA 9000, which seems to be a very new model, from KCautosound tonight actually once he calls me back in a couple of minutes.

I can't wait for this damn thing.

FYI, your first link isn't working.

It is louder than hell. I have a battery back up, should someone try to cut the main truck battery. I have a mercury switch on the hood. I am very pleased w/ the whole set up.

I just bought a Code Alarm SRT-6700 from these guys. They offer a very similar service to kcautosound, pre-wired, instructions for your specific vehicle, an install DVD, even all the connectors and a multi-tester! The SRT-6700 is one of Code Alarm's brand new models, and with a PATS bypass the whole deal cost me $330 shipped. If you've never done something like this before, expect to kill a weekend doing it. 8 hours maybe... I'm predicting it will take me that long but I'm pretty **** about my wiring.

I got the ford system from a dealership up here. Did it so it would be under warranty. Had a problem with it, and they fixed it when I brought the truck in again. They used a relay instead of having to use an extra key. Cost like 500 and change installed, but doesnt void any ford warranty!

I have an Astro Start system and love it. Its has settings such as: outside temp start, variable run time, keep warn (runs every two hours for set time) and more.

It cost me about 350 installed.
