Think I found a cool mod!

Does a Troyer SCT Livewire actually give me 14 RWHP and 20 RWTQ for the 4.2l V6?

That's before I want to shell out $569 probably plus some crazy shipping too.

What I like about it is the fact that it has all those gauges on it.

Now my other question is... what will it show for guages off of the OBDII interface, WITHOUT using the AUX +5v inputs (so don't start telling me stuff about how it can display a Pyrometer, because I'm pretty sure my v6 doesn't have one for the ECU.)??

The reason I ask is because they have no mention of the entire list on their site... and no one on here has a list... so someone like Quintin might be able to answer this for me.

I'll probably buy it, just because it looks cool... and the fact that I want some real time gauges.

if you're serious about tuning your truck, then yes. for the everyday driver, no

get an Edge and use it's guage function.

the livewire comes with 3 preloaded tunes, and you can get 3 additional "extra" tunes. there aren't enough mods to justify 6 different tunes for you v-6...or most v-8's....unless you just want it on your dash

Thanks for the info... I'd rather spend less to make me happy. I just want to use the gauge function... but the extra hp/tq could come in handy...

So I shot them off an email a few seconds ago, and I asked them if it would work on the 4.2l v6 5 speed because there was no mention of it on their site... so I had no clue if it would work. I am hoping that it will, because it would save me about $100.

the reason for the 6 tunes is so that you have the canned tunes and also have the ability to get custom tunes just like a xcal2 but it keeps the canned tunes as well(the new x3 is the same)

The unit you need for custom tuning is this one:

http://www.troyerperformance.com/cgi...talogno=9600-T

Same device, but it also comes with three custom tunes of your choice. If you don't want the extra tunin', get the other 'part #' - the balance of the feature set still applies, and you can purchase custom tuning at a later date to load onto the device yourself - but that ends up costing more than just getting it included all at once - your call.

For sure the custom tunes will work on your truck. Confirm the canned ones will as well.

The gains will be superior to any of the canned tunes that are preloaded. Even on a stock vehicle.

You do not need to use the analog inputs unless you have an external device such as a wideband A/F controller/recorder, or MAP sensor ( for monitoring boost)... those sorts of things. Otherwise this unit can display almost any PCM parameter you choose - many, many more than the Edge or Dashhawk can - not even close.

Best to call them on the phone; email load may delay a response. ( Member discount may apply as well.). Shipping will be reasonable so I don't know what you meant. This ain't eBay you are dealing with.

Good luck.

The edge only works on 4.6 and 5.4 trucks, even if you could use it for the gauges only on a V-6, I think 4 bills is a lot just for gauges. A livewire can be had for about 6 bills and you get the gauges and 3 canned tunes. I would buy a dashhawk for the gauges, they can be had for less than 3.

Thanks for the info!

It looks as if I should spend the extra $$ to get the Troyer... but I'll shoot them off an email in a few minutes and see what they have to say about the tunes.

Personally, I like the way the Troyer one looks over the Edge... plus it even has a built in shift light that I could ACTUALLY use because I've got a stick.

Not only that, but I like the rounded corners on the gauge table on the display, where it shows the RPMs and such.

My other question is... does it offer a digital analog gauge display setup? What I mean is can it show analog gauges on the LCD as an option instead of the digital one? I know you can select the colors and stuff... or maybe I should just wait to get one. Maybe telling me will spoil the fun of it.

Hey, NP, buddy.

Did a quick look and did not see any reference to that ability - but the display is software-driven so it would be possible. You can post a Q on SCT's website forums on this - I think it's a good idea, myself.

On the rounded corners, I think you are going to be a little surprised that they aren't - I asked this a while ago on SCT's site - the display in those pix is a ad/marketing pre-prod mockup - the real deal uses square/rectangular boxes - I gave them chit for the misleading visuals too lol!.

Again - if they really wanted to, that could be fixed too with display software changes. They need to get any remaning bugs sorted first, then focus on 'bling'.

Let us know how you like it. Thanks.

BTW - quick hijack - you finish them wheels yet?

Hey man, if you're just looking for some realtime gauges check out www.scanguage.com. You can get em off eBay for ~130, that's where I got mine. Nothing super fancy, but it's a much cheaper alternative. It can display 4 of the 12 real time gauges (Fuel Economy, Fuel Rate, Battery Voltage, Coolant Temperature, Intake Air Temperature, Engine Speed (RPM), Vehicle speed (MPH), Manifold Pressure (not available on some vehicles), Engine Load, Throttle Position, Ignition Timing and Open/Closed Loop) at any 1 given time.

Hi NCSU - check their website - there are updates - they've added many more gauges/functions .... you can get your unit upgraded.

Well I got an email back from Edge... here's what it says:

Charles,

Unfortunately our Evolution programmer will not work with your application. The EEF2400 will only work on the 4.6L & 5.4L Triton V8 engines, and I have not heard of any plans to offer support for the V6 engines. You may try checking with Superchips as I believe they offer a programmer for your application. If you have any other questions, let us know.

Thanks,

So, I got a VERY nice phone call from Troyer later today, from a person by the name of Neil. He was SUPER informative, and he knew 100% that it would work, and he even told me EXACTLY what it would show off of the ECU.

So because of that, I gave them my business. I got it for a "EDITED"! No charge on shipping and "EDITED" off because of being a member F150online.com.

Yes, I finished those rims... I meant to take a picture today, but I didn't have a chance to get my good camera out to take some high resolution pics... but here's something I took last night when I finished them. It doesn't look like much with a camera phone... but the compliments and looks I got were impressive.

Fixed.

I'll post some pictures of the Troyer SCT Tuner when I get it and put it in. Not only that, but I'll give my opinon on the hp/tq increase.

What functions does it all display without having to add extra sensors?

I would be intersested if it has usable functions, real time read-outs, and adds power. I would like to have a shift light for the manual.

Where would you put it? Does it go next to the A-pillar, or is it to big?
