f-150`s rearend whine why ???

I am looking to update to a 04 lariat screw worse than my 01 it has rear end whine loud . Why has ford been having so much problems with the rearends?? This 04 has 98000, miles but I might be able to get it for $15,000. is that a good enough deal?? Thanks Mike.

Gearsets from the lowest bidder, mostly.

At 98k, The truck may be due for a tune up. People who don't want to deal with the 5.4 plugs are selling them before the 100000 mark. Make sure the plugs are changed. Ask the dealership if you can rent the truck for a week. Make sure to take it to an independent mechanic who is savvy about the F150's. $15,000 is a fair deal, if the truck is not problematic.

The rear end whine is normal of any RWD vehicle. Get used to it...

Not necessarily...

Ever ride in a school bus? I drove a brand new school bus last year and the rear diff whined like a baby.

Unless they didn't install the gears right... which I highly doubt.

My Dakota whines, my F150 whines, and an E-450 van whines... so it is completely normal in my books.

I know my fords, probably better than most people I had a 96 bronco with 170,000 miles no whine, I had a 04 fx-4 screw last year with 35,000 miles whine in that also, they never had this issue before, & not all rear end drive trucks do this I am not buying this from a dealer, which I will never do again as long as I live at least a used veicle, but this truck has all highway miles, by a sales person, it is in great shape no dings or marks on the leather, but I know the rear end is going to need help, oh I dont date fat chicks I am married & she weighs 110 lbs.

I do know when you have a big cab like a bus or a screw you will have more drown in it from the rear. I had other pickups with no whine, but I bet your right you really need a rearend guy who knows what he is doing to install the gears. Oh sorry about the double post.

Gear whine doesn't really matter in a commercial truck or bus. With good parts and proper set up, there's no excuse for it in a passenger car or truck.

I agree, my 150 has no whine, I can hear the wind over any drivetrain noise that may be present

My 04' F150 along with my 04' Expy both had the rear axle whine. They started quiet, then progressed to annoying.

The dealer replaced both sets of pinions, and all is quiet. If still under warranty, there is a Ford pinion replacement kit for whining rear differential. If you pay for it yourself, it's around $1000 or so at dealer prices.
