Troyer’s newly redesigned e-fan kit: Yay or Nay?

Mike just posted that he has a newly “redesigned” e-fan kit available for purchase and I’m thinking about purchasing that kit from him. Has anyone purchased that kit yet from Mike? I have it narrowed down between Mike’s e-fan kit and JDM’s e-fan kit, so I’m looking for any opinions on either kit.

I have been running a set of these "new" brackets for about 6 months.
I have no pics, but they are a great improvement over the previous method of the rods through the radiator fins.
They actually clamp over the top and bottom edges of the radiator and allow for a small amount of adjustment if necessary.

Well when every part of my efan kit from Troyer eventually failed (the actual fan burning out was due to my neglect), however the rest of the kit just failed on its own. Both controllers, mounts, etc. I was given full price for each part ($50 per controller) and was told it was due to owner neglect, no parts would be warrantied. There are several members (bigtruck, rafa, etc) who have experienced this, do a search. If it's worth it to take the gamble then by all means. However I haven't heard anything negative about FAL's kit, food for thought.

What kind of neglect are you talking about? Are you supposed to do some kind of maintenance on them? (Obviously Im clueless about these e fans, but after having them on our work trucks, Im thinking of the add on.)

Thumbs up

The only part to fail on my e-fan from troyer was the fuse holder for the main fan (ac) changed out both fuse holders. Fans on my truck three years now.

Check out my FAL 270 kit in my gallery.

Neglect? What are you supposed to do to them? I haven't done a thing to mine in 10 months of having them and they run perfectly.

If you get the Troyer kit, make sure you sawder (sp??) all electrical connections. I had my kit on for over two years and then the bottom fell out. Had not touched a thing and then had two electrical melt downs inside 4 months...a fuse block completely burt through and fell apart (luckily it fell apart cause that's what stopped the fire), had a hot wire from the battery melt and the terminal almost melted through the battery case, had a radiator leak caused by the rods that go through the radiator (shoulda never used those brass rods in the first place...my fault) and had a complete fan failure and had to buy a new one.

I have since gone back and fixed every electrical connection and got some of the big fat plastic rods that go through the radiator. May go check out the new clips though.

As for the fan failure, I don't blame Troyer, he didn't build them. They are "off the shelf" Derale fans. But if about 4 years is the life span of these fans, I'll be going back to the mechanical one the next time one fails.
