Need more height!

Hey everyone! I have a '07 Screw XLT 2WD that I want to lift. I am in my final planning stages on where I want to go with the amount of height I'm looking for. I am not looking for anything extreme, but something to give more a little more overall height front and back...something about the height of a stock 4x4 F-150. Right now I am looking at getting a 2.5" AS leveling kit up front with a pair of 1.5" blocks in the rear. I am running the stock 17" rim and tire combo, but I would eventually like to keep my 17" stock wheels and go with at least a 33" tall tire all the way around. I do some occasional hunting with my father every year, and so far we've gone in his truck, but I would like to start taking my truck eventually. I'm just a little uneasy about the truck's height in some areas where we hunt. Nothing a 2WD can't handle, but just afraid of taking out some of my trucks vital organs underneath.

Would the above suspension setup be ideal for where I want the truck to sit, or should I consider a different approach? I am on a budget, so big expenditures are a little out of the question at this point.

go to a junkyard and find a 2004+ 4x4 with good front coil overs. grab them (shock & coils) and the rear leaf block (~1.5") also. this will put you at the same height as a stock 4x4.

then I suggest you get a 2" autospring spacer. that'll put you 1/4" to 1/2" from being perfectly leveled out.

and you can then fit 35" tires

I'd say overall, the coils and block might cost you $200 from a junkyard...the spacer will be about $90 on eBay. all told, I'd say you can "lift" her for well under $500. if nothing else, get those 4x4 coil-overs. they make the truck ride smoother and it really stiffens up the roll in corners in addition to lifting the front end 1.5"

Called a few salvage yards yesterday afternoon to find out if they had any F150 4x4s on their lot that still had the stock suspension. To my surprise, or demise...depending on how you want to look at it, one place had one but wanted to charge me up the wazoo for the "used" parts. Not only that, the price involved me actually going out there to remove the parts from the truck. Not that I have a problem with that, but for the just over $600 they wanted to charge me, I'd expect them to do the labor.

Back to square one. I am getting a little weary about putting the 2.5" AS kit on the front of the truck. Researching the posts about them on here, I am getting about 50/50 feedback response as far as overall risk with installing these. I've read how some people have had problems with ball joints being angled to much, and some who have never had a problem. Should I downgrade to the 2" kit, or will the ball joint still be angled too much to make it a problem? I don't plan to do any extreme off-roading in the truck. Mostly, it will be in-town and highway driving, and some occasional trips to hunting lease (nothing drastic out there).

How much? I'll keep this in mind. The rear block I am not too worried about since I know I should be able to get a hold of a set no matter what. I'm just concerned about the leveling kit for the front. I've got a 20-month old son and a wife, and I wouldn't want to be driving on the highway when something fails after installing the 2" or 2.5" AS kit on the front.

What about a PA body lift and maybe some adjustable shocks up front.

Well, I thought about a body lift, but it's the bottom of the truck I'm worried about. My thoughts were to lift the truck just enough to clear some of the terrain out there; the body lift will still keep the height from the bottom of the truck to the ground the same, but will raise the body of the truck and while adding a little more wheel gap.

I have a 2yr and 4 yr old and they are always in my truck and we take a 15hr road trip every year one way down to S.Carolina from NY and we never had a problem. I have a 4x4 with a 2'' AS kit. BTW I did the trip 3 times already. I would never ever put my kids in danger. Do what you feel comfertable with.

Well, if I go with the 2" AS kit and 1.5" blocks in the rear, I am assuming my stance will not be level, correct? Whereas, if I go with the 2.5" kit up front and 1.5" blocks in the back, I will be a little more level. What will give me the closest height similar to a 4WD F-150?

Someone on this site has the same set up as me with a 4x2 and I know he used the 2.5 AS up front but not sure what he used out back.

No matter what kind lift you go with the distance from the bottom of the suspension to the ground is the same until you go with a taller tire.

Just ordered the AS 2.5" leveling kit for the front. I will probably install them first to see how the truck sits after. If it sits higher in the front, I will get some blocks to raise up the back and level me out.

Not to try and hijack the offer but if they are still available I am interested in the FX4 blocks, bolts and nuts.
