no you just have to replace the top and bottom covers as for how hard it is i dont know because i havent under taken the project yet

As far as the installation, just do a search for FX4&Excursion, he has a thread on here detailing his swap, even though I haven't seen him on here in forever.

the console part doesnt seem so bad but how hard would it be to switch dashes

just get an expedition console... you dont have the shifter on the console but you get a flow through console for MUCH MUCH cheaper and without the headache.

the 08 Expedition console is a flow through and shifter. It looks like it should mate up to the standard dash. Just dont know if there are any out there or what the cost would be.

FX4&Excursion did swap dashes, and if you check his gallery, he has a whole section in there related to the dash swap. Here is the thread:
