For 2 reasons...

#1. I always wondered why they did a 3 valve per cylinder layout. Seems a little retarded to me...
#2. Uh. A V-8 with 24 valves IS a 3 valve per cylinder engine. (8 x 3 = 24 unless you are publicly educated).

I THINK the person that made that pic SHOULD have said,

When 32 valves are past your counting abilities!
I will refer your suggestion to the honourable gentleman (last5oh_302) who kindly provided that original composition, which was done at the request of illiterate Bubba.

Thank-you for your valuable feedback - it will asist in ongoing quality control improvement efforts.

"automotive hypochondria"

What a great term.

Would one step further be automotive "Munchausen's Syndrome"?

That'd be where people convince themselves they have a major problem just to get attention on the F150 message boards.

Labor- $114.59 (90.00/hr)

Parts- $35.36 (16 qts Mercon 5)

"shop materials fee"- $7.56

Total: $157.51 b4 tax

On the way out I ask the service advisor what they charge to do the spark plugs. Here's how that went....

Me- "So how much to change the plugs by the TSB?"

SA- "Which TSB, there are a lot of them"

Me thinking to myself- "How many TSBs does he think there are on the 04-07 plug change"

SA (after hesitating)- "Well we usually just soak 'em real good with some penetrant and they come out fine". "That service is $350 including plugs".

Guess I'll be shopping around for the plug change or just bite the bullet and do it myself. This guy didn't exactly impress with his knowledge of the plug issue.

Going back to the original question on this thread.

I was coming up on the end of my three year warranty. I have 32,000 miles. I had read all the spark plug mess so I decided to bight the bullet and have Ford do the spark plug change. I'm a doit yourselfer usually, but I didn't want to breakem and have to pay for the mess Ford started. So I let the dealership do it here in Tulsa. They charged $249. I told the service Tech that I thought that was rather expensive for a plug change, he said the procedure(TSB) was rather drawn out. I asked him if they breakem are they going to pay for them under warranty. He laughed and told me NO, that they had not covered any under warrany!. I pointed out that the TSB said this was covered under warranty. He looked up the TSB and back off and said any breakage would be covered.

I asked about tranny flush - $149. Just got a load of service coupons in the mail tranny flush special for $99.

So SVT Pilot you are right in the neighborhood for a tranny flush, but the plug change may be on the high side.

Thanks for the responses, it sounds they are a little on the high side on their prices. I guess they have to recoup their construction costs somehow. This dealership must have spared no expense, because they went all out. I'm talking granite counters, 60" LCD in the customer lounge, leather furniture, etc, etc. It's like I had stepped into a Lexus or Benz dealership. I'm still debating the plugs right now. I'm usually a DIY'er also, but the price would be high for f'ing this one up.

Now that sounds like one really covert, shade-tree-style, hoodwinking type of operation behind those cement curtains...
