Blocks in the rear instead of AALs??

Just curious if anyone is using blocks to lift the rear up instead of add a leafs?

My truck already rides like a ****, so Im sure if I put AALs in it it would be a bish. Blocks would keep my factory ride, plus they have to cost 1/3 of what a pair of AALs cost.

Is there a reason I dont see anyone with blocks, or is it just because no one has tried it yet?

Also, Ive heard AALs kind of help with axle wrap...is this so or is it minimal if it does?

I did blocks. Wheel hop was increased a noticable amount. Factory ride is alright and suits me enough that I'm not planning on changing it. If I had it to do again though I might go with the AAL's instead.

I did both! I didn't really notice an decrease in ride quality but I've only got a 2" add-a-leaf. I'd say don't worry about it unless you go with a 4" add-a-leaf. But to my knowledge most of the people with lifts are running blocks or blocks and add-a-leafs. Theres only a handful of people who actually spent the money on complete replacement leaf packs. I'll be joining them shortly soon as the mod fund gets replenished.

I'm not so sure the add-a-leafs help with the axle wrap but they just don't create it like getting lift from a block.

I hope this helps..

Hmm, I figured the AALs made the rear end quite a bit stiffer...
Id only be going with the 2 or 1.5 inch or whatever it is.

I plan on adding traction bars already, I wonder if that woudl be enough to fix the axle wrap/wheel hop issue with taller blocks.
With the way I drive and the power I eventually plan to be pushing, Ill be breakings stuff left and right if I have any wheel hop:o

Je3169, do those new blocks have the little 'ears' on them for the factory bumpstops to hit? Or do you need to put in bigger bumpstops or anything?

I was thinking blocks would be great for saving money, might be worth the extra for AALs though eh.

Thumper, where you getting your leafs from?

Add-a-leafs or complete replacement leaf packs? How much lift total do you want to have in the rear?

The whole new leaf packs Im talking about.

Im only looking for about 1.5-2 more inches in the rear. BUT, if I could get new leaf packs that are +4 inches over stock, that would help BIG TIME with wheel hop/axle wrap over the stock blocks and an AAL. Maybe it isnt worth it for the cost though, I have no idea what a set cost...

Like I said, Ill most likely need all the help I can get with traction...

I did a 1.5 AAL from Procomp with a little more stiffness, but not intolerable. If you go with route, get the long ones. These are not as stiff as the short ones which offer a better ride. I looked into getting replacement packs as well, but I did not like the cost and the long versions were not as bad.

I Currently use a 3 inch block on top of my 2 inch block in the rear. I also have an AAL. Before and after the AAL I have experienced no wheel hop or axle wrap. I say go for the block for right now. When you add the ponies under the hood get traction bars. That way you maintain factory ride quality, eliminate all axle wrap and get to play with the HP.
By the way, whats your plans for more power?
