To Flex Fuel or Not to Flex Fuel, that is the question?

I am not concerned how knoble a flex fuel engine is. I am concernec with power, performance and reliability. If the Flex fuel engine and the non Flex Fuel are the same why does Ford offer 2? What are the differences? I am considering a 2008 Lariet Screw 4 X 4. I wish I could wait on the diesel, but I have been without a truck since March, and am getting tired of working around the limitations of an SUV. Not to mention thefact that my Expedition has 90,000 miles on it, and I hope to avoid a lot of repairs on it.

What are the pros and cons of the Flex Fuel engine?

When I got my 2007 5.4 Screw, it is a FFV, I figure it won't hurt, cause the Flex Fuel Stuff will be at the pumps somday if not already, E-85, depends where you reside, but it is commin to a station nearby sometime.....

Can you purchase flex fuel in your neck of the woods? If not it's an easy decision. It's a toss up as far as saving money goes. In other words you will get about 10mpg using e84. It's cheaper than normal gas but you burn more. The truck on the lot that had all the options I wanted just happened to have the FF motor, thats the only reason I have one.
As far as power difference, from what I have read there is none. Unless you are burning the e85.

No. FFV vehicles have different heads. As for what changes, i am unsure but they have a different part numbers.

what the f are you smokin? they do not have different heads. The seals and the fuel lines are of a compatable material for ethonol.. and the PCM is calibrated for ethonol. It is a no cost option on the truck... with the uncertanty/stupidity of the greeners.. get the option. it will perform the same as the regular 5.4 on gasoline.. but if ethonol is popular... you will have another option. That is why I got mine with the flex fuel option.

They obviously have a different part number for a reason, just like the 4.6 and 5.4 3v camshafts share the same part number because they are a like. I wasn't disagreeing with what was already stated, i KNOW that. I said "no" because he stated "the only difference" and its not the only one.

I dont mean to hit you when you are already on the floor but you didn't sound like you exactly knew what you were talking about. You said "No. FFV vehicles have different heads." instead you should of said that they have different heads too, cause that implies that they have different seals and stuff, as I stated before. instead you made it sound like I was wrong and you were right.

Thanks for the link ! They stated "After re-fueling the half-empty tank with E85".
My post was more along the mind set of running pure E85. They also stated no power loss between the two types of fuels.....

I have looked into this as they sell kits for the existing F-150's for less than 300 bucks. Your right that power and MPG both drop on pure E-85, but most people were only reporting about a 10% loss. So really you would still come out ahead as even in Tx now it is selling for a buck under gas

E-85 has the potential to make MORE power.. It's basicly 105 octane gas...

Alot of people in the performance world is getting 1000+rwhp using e-85.
