MPG Question?

Forgive me if this has been asked and answered. I recently purchased a new 2007 XLT Supercab with the 5.4. I am very impressed with the truck all around. However, perhaps its after owning a Lightning then Mustang, I find it odd, actually a pleasure to see my new truck is averaging approx. 19 – 20 mpg (city and highway). Is that normal? I ask because I had a 2006 Ranger with the 4.0 and it had a hard time managing to get 15 – 16 mpg (city and highway). The truck only has approx. 800 miles on it and from my experiences with many new vehicles it generally gets better mileage with more miles. Just trying to see if this is normal because I am VERY happy with the results…

That's normal. I still get that on my 05 2wd crew cab with a 5.4.

Excellent, that's great to hear. I forgot to mention that it's a 4x4, same as my Ranger was. My driving with that milage is about half city and half freeway.

i get about 12 to 13 even when i have my foot glued to the floor. it seems crazy why there is so much difference in one to another.

I dunno why, but it seems like there's a huge variance between fuel mileage figures for these trucks, driving habits aside. I think 16-18 is probably average, 10-12 at worst, 20+ at best. I'm hovering right around 16-17 myself.

Mine averages about 17. No better, no worse.

I average 15-16 combined with mine and I have 35's on it (FX4 Screw - 6.5 ft. bed - 5.4L, 3.73's).

Is fuel economy improved or unaffected by switching to 93 octane?

No reason, other then detonation, to ever use a higher octane. Even if you got slightly better mileage you would end up spending more money due to the cost difference from 87 to 93. Also 93 is not good for the motor and would create more build up in the cylinders UNLESS you have a tune to take advantage of the higher octane.

I forgot to mention that getting my 19 - 20mpg (about half city and half freeway) I have the 17" wheels and stock tires. Also have the 3.73L/S gears. I am really happy thus far with the fuel milage...

Your welcome...

I also know that, generally, with bigger wheels, like 20" you will have more weight and thus would most likely see less mpg.
