Removing A/C Vents?

I have tried to just pull them out but they won't budge. Did they change something with these in 07?

Mine have the chrome ring covers on them. Does this matter? And what am I grabbing exactly? The louvers that open and close?

Inside the vents, there are two retaining tabs that hold the vents in place. I was no able to just pull mine out either. I took some spare bailing wire I had around the house and formed a hook on one end. I manuvered the wire in the vent and hooked both of the tabs ( using two seperate wires) and released enough pressure off the tabs to free the vents.

I have not removed mine for about a year. That's what I remember I had to do to get them out. Good Luck.

open the vent up, stick your 2 fingers in the vent, sorta wedge your fingers in between them, spin and pull out, once they hit the notches inside they pull right out. takes likes a minute too pull them out. i just painted mine, sharp $5 mod

Are you instaling some type of switch or the like inside of the vents or are you looking at replacing them?

I once installed an engine-kill switch to a vehicle I had back home inside the dS air vent and it worked like a charm. I'd switch the kill-switch and close the vent upon exiting the vehicle.

It saved my ride from being taken twice.

I just spent 20 minutes trying to do this and the REAR vents do not just pop out. I confirmed that the FRONT vents ( the ones in the dash ) surely do just pop right out but the rear vents ( the ones on the back of the center console) do not. Please respond if you know how to get these little devils out so I can repair/replace the louver mechanism.

Thanks,
Tom

Do you have any pics of those painted vents? I was thinking about that the other day. And sorry for jacking the thread, but my vents do just pop out as well.

I applied a LOT of force and the rear vent did not pop out,( front vents came out easy). * I also got a flashlight and spent some time studying the Vents and the ones in the dash are clearly different than the vents on the rear of the center console. The dash vents are a one piece canister with locking tabs clearly visible, the rear vents don't have ane locking tabs that I could find and they turn behind a stationary trim ring, is this what holds them in place, if so how do I get it out? *My truck is an '05 King Ranch. This question is not about the in dash front vents.

Here are what mine look like. I actually pulled this idea from Marshal's thread.
It's an easy upgrade and gits rid of that ugly chrome.

The paint is Dupli-color perfect match BFM0360 Dark Shadow Gray. I bought it at pep boys. Like 6 bucks. When I did this I started a thread called cheap easy mod.
