Catastrophic Failure - Long Rant
Catastrophic Failure
After reading many threads for the last several months , I have come to the conclusion that at any moment my truck should succumb to a catastrophic failure because of my poor choice of components that I have added on, just for the record I have added a 1) VOLANT/Powercore with Ram air 2) Edge Evolution programmer 3) CORSA si/do , I replaced a magnaflow with the corsa because of drone now there is none ,one of the side effects of these mods has been an increase from 13.4 to 15.1 city and 17.8 to 22.4 hiway @ 60mph , now I know because of the threads I have read here that with the above combo and the lean condition that it is causing, I am doomed to be on the side of road cursing the ill chosen components, if only I had gone with the custom tune( which I have no doubt is better, just didnt want to wait) , now here is my dillema , My VOLANT does not fall on its face after the dreaded 4000 mark on my tach it just keeps pulling , as for the EDGE it absolutley gives me more power and the CORSA sound is so sweet and dead quiet at speed ( love it ), Is this situation I have gotten myself into somewhat like the lead base paint that the whole world is now freaking out on, Everyone that is old enough to read this grew up sucking on lead based paint items and i bet no one knows anyone that died from it ,cause you dont just sit down and consume mass quantities of the stuff , So Im thinking that unless I drive 10,000 miles at WOT I'm probably going to be alright, is there anyone on this forum that blew a motor from these items? Look my truck seems to be running fine , my last truck a 2000 ran fine with these items
(70k miles) ,never had a problem , wouldnt these companies be out of buisness if it was really that bad ? I'm getting better MPG and having more fun doing it isnt that all that really matters, Ok Folks please reply and dont pull any punches, maybe some even agree with me. I am just putting in my 2 cents on the whole mod issue that seems to be scaring people out of thier minds. I really hope it isnt true that I am doomed.

First off, paragraphs are you friend.
And second, I doubt you'll ever have a major problem or failure for the life of your truck with those mods. Some guys seem to report no crank/no start problems with the Edge, but I hear Edge is working with folks to get those problems squared away. I think you'll be just fine.

Agree .
You can always get it dyno'd for some peace of mind. Then you'll know for sure.
Manufacturers are very adept at stonewalling and not acknowledging issues in general.
The 4,000 rpm dilemma - this is in reference to benchmarking against a competitive product. Intriugingly enough, the stock intake on the 5.4 3V exhibits exactly the opposite effect - it's suboptimal everywhere BUT around the 3,500-4,000 rpm mark, where it actually does very well. So yeah, you'll feel your intake still pull, just perhaps not as much as another model might. This where the AF1 3.5" really comes alive, all the way to redline. Delta is significant.
Relax & enjoy the truck

Some mods, like what you have... really don't take much off the engine. You might be pressing your transmission a little bit... but not that much.
Besides... running it at WOT all the time isn't good for any engine. I don't care what you got. If you run it WOT at every chance, you are just asking for problems.
Ever read your owners manual? Read where it mentions the tachometer... Here... I'll go to my owners manual and type what it says, word-for-word, "Tachometer (if equipped): Indicates the engine speed in revolutions per minute. Driving with your tachometer pointer continuously at the top of the scale may damage the engine."
Notice it has the clause "may damage"... so just think about it the next time you decide to be cool and give it WOT. You've just short changed the engine 2k miles probably.
I think you should be fine.
I know I have ran my truck pretty hard on and off the last week or so (It is starting to worry me a lil) After I installed the AF1 intake. I honestly cant help it cuz when you get on it. The intake wakes up and it just sounds like a 5.4L on steiroids.

No need to worry. Some of the people wiggin out or bashing a product are just doing so because they chose a different product that they think is the best. You have nothing to worry about. The truck is fine. Keep up regular maintenance.

bubbaHell no!! I use spell check for everything !! I can't spell or use proper grammar for the life of me
Grammar is not one of my best suits , but I was only trying to make a point. Seems a lot of folks here are very biased on a particular brand,Also I do not run the truck at WOT all the time in fact hardly ever , I was only saying if I did , then I may have a problem.
As for MPG, I added a Bakflip cover and the magnaflow muffler only and increased MPG to around 20.5 , After the Intake , programmer and catback exhaust with the bakflip , I drove round trip, 135 miles on the hiway mostly level with some hills ,used cruise and set it at 60 mph, when I got back my trucks computer had MPG at 22.4. Edge was set on level three with 93 octane, one of our local gas stations has premium for regular price on tuesdays , so no added cost to run level 3.
MGDfan ,first off thanks for not doggin me , as far as the dyno, no need as I am happy with the performance and MPG , I am sure performance could be better but MPG would probably suffer.
Note I actually tried to use paragraphs , spell correctly and use proper grammar, but I am sure I screwed up somewhere.LOL
