I sanded the whole light with 600, masked off the reverse light, three coats of clear w/ a little black base in it, then unmasked the reverse light and one coat of clear on the whole light.. not even an hour..

I always thought that if I did tint my lights I would leave the reverse section untinted like yours, they look great. Here's another thought, move the braking/parking bulb to the reverse light section and add auxilery back up lights. Then put a good LED bulb cluster in the reverse section since its less surface area I think that the LED would be extremely bright. By doing this I would get the LED's that I wanted, the look of blacked out lights that I wanted, better reverse lighting that I wanted and a very original light set up. Sorry if this doesn't make sense.

Don't be sorry - it makes perfect sense!

I was thinking of doing something very similar.

Exactly, and the red part of the lights would be black with no red coming through. The more I think about it, it wouldn't look to bad to paint the red part the same color as my truck instead of blacking it out.
