IMO what the guy with the 3V in the Mustang is doing is much much more impressive to me that Rafa's truck was.

X2 i totally agree, "do it your self" is what give a truck "pride" if that makes any sense..

its an awesome truck no doubt, but i think there was something about his personality that just rubbed people the wrong way... and if you can tell that by reading posts on the interenet, then that should tell you something...

Either way, I would be pissed too if I dropped 25k and only put down 500rwhp.

Kudos RamSS/T, I couldn't agree more. DIY is what puts all of the fun into hot rodding. As an example, I just ordered 4.56 gears for my 05 over the weekend. Sure, there are a lot of people on here that have regeared their trucks, but not many have done it themselves. I've never done gears before, but it is a good time to learn and a great way to save a bunch of money. With the money I saved, I can finally get the spray-in bedliner that my truck needs (If you saw my bed floor you would know what I mean...)

I don't know, no matter how he's doing, i.e, writing checks or turning wrenches he has a vision for his truck and he's making it happen.

If I wanted a new paint job I'm not going to try doing it myself, I'm going to pay a pro to do it. We're not talking about changing brakes, this is big time stuff he's working on.

I tend to agree.

He earned that money - no one gave it to him. He can spend it as he wishes.

And I for one enjoyed reading the buildup posts. ALL of them

As was stated earlier - there is still an undercurrent of jealousy present here.

I agree with you there Charlie. I'm not much of a wrencher myself, although I do have great respect for those that can do it all themselves. Not everyone is in that boat, nor do they have the means (tools, equipment etc), time or knowledge to do so.
Simple bolt-ons are one thing, but like you said, painting, or serious internal engine work are not things your average Joe can complete succesfully on their own.

If he knew anything he still could have "just written a check" but the check would have been ALOT less. Why he went with a Aluminum GT block is beyond me unless it was just something to be different but that right there is a huge chunk of money. Build up a stock block with forged internals, pulley the whipple to 17-18 lbs, built tranny and voila you have what he has power wise and if not more for a hell of alot cheaper. Bottom line is there are alot of people out there that drop serious coin like this without doing any research. I just cant see spending money on something you know nothing about.

The point is it was said he was awsome for what he did...my counter point is he didn't do anything but write a check. Maybe they should say JDM is awsome for what they did with Rafa's truck. Who should get the credit for some of the custom cars out there....Chip Foose, Boyd Codington or the guys that paid them to build them?

ok what you are saying is completely irrelevant. I also bought a computer but I didnt go drop $5k on one because I dont know enough about them to know if it would actually be worth it to spend that kind of money. Im sure when you bought a house you knew something about it and had an inspection and at least had the specifics of the house and just didnt go and write a check after seeing one picture. And I and others brought up these points when he was still on these boards so this has nothing to do with bashing someone without their knowledge. Also I wouldnt even call it bashing since I agree that he was trying to do something different but the fact of the matter is that he didnt know much about his truck which led to alot of drama on here. Remember when he blew up and said JDM ripped him off because he doesnt even know what pumps are in the truck and he was supposed to get some -6an fuel line? How do you go that long and not realize that you have factory fuel lines? Its not like they are hidden-open the hood and bam theres the fuel line.
I also agree that forums are for help but he never really seemed like he was looking for any-just problems.

Well I say, its awesome that he had the ***** to fork over all that cash. Would JDM have ever build a truck like that if he did not write the check?
