Ignition cylinder lock replacement

I've been trying to track down a horrendous metal on metal rattling noise coming from the steering column. It wasnt the typical steering column bushings, I could actually here it while moving the tilt wheel up and down positions. Turns out its the ignition cylinder lock creating the horrible noise, it must be loose inside. Sad its only 2 yrs old, but at any rate it needs to be replaced. There seems to be an inductive ring around the cylinder lock, which I assume would be the security feature. Thanks to this "great" feature, replacing a faulty cylinder lock with keys now gets quite expensive. I'm at 40k miles, although I do have an extended warranty. However, my deductible will probably be more than if I just fix it myself. Anyone ever replaced the cylinder lock? I realize at two yrs old its pretty sad it's failing already, but its what I've come to expect I guess.

The lock cylinder just slides out, there's no need to worry about messing with the PATS transceiver. You may have to unbolt it and move it out the way, but I'm not entirely sure. The lock cylinder itself is about $60-70 or so, and a locksmith can re-key it for like $20.
