15k Mile Service

My G/F Finally hit 15k miles on her '05 FX4 and I am looking at the 'official recommendations':
Change Oil and Filter
Inspect Tires
Inspect Auto Transmission Fluid level
Inspect Brakes
Inspect wheel Ends (what is this all about?)
Inspect Engine Cooling system
Inspect Steering Linkage
Replace Cabin Filter (not for these models, I know)
Inspect and Lube 4X4 front axle shaft.
Multi-point inspection recommended (anyone have any details on this?)

What has been the cost for this for those that have had this done?

~Thanks

Looks to me like nothing except taking a peak at anything even happens... just do normal stuff and save your cash.

It's an oil change.

and if they can sell it to ya... a tire rotation

People get sucked into this **** all the time in the garage... I get an RO that says all that crap... they get an oil change and the wheels come off for pad depth inspection... if the rotors look like they need to be measured... then you get a measurement of the thickness as well...

get the $30 LOF... you'll get all the same things done.

EDIT: Actually do the tire rotation btw... it helps to keep those tires on the road longer... but don't let them do a front to back (useless)... cross the fronts to the back (helps to get rid of the feathering and chopping that happens with certain ford vehicles' tires) and bring the backs straight to the front. That rotation will give you the most miles.

The "multi-point" inspection is just eyeballing everything to spot any obvious problems. There should be no charge for that item.

The 15k should also include new air and fuel filters (at least it does in my manual).

In my experience the 15k service will run about $150 - $190, depending on the dealer, etc.

There's nothing on the list you can't do yourself on a lazy Saturday afternoon for $100 cheaper. Just keep any receipts for your records.

15k has been increasingly useless to predict a/f and f/f changes... with typical use the a/f does not become clogged enough to cause problems until 25-30k and a good rule of thumb is to replace the f/f and a/f at the same time since there is no way of knowing how clogged the f/f is without taking it out... just looking at the casing isn't really useful except to estimate how long it's been on there time wise...

If you drive through dust clouds then prepare to change the a/f before 15k...
