I agree, but at least it's a buffer between the paint and everything else.

I bought all the materials, except for the sand paper. I am going to try the antenna base this weekend (not much time to spare) and see if I am pleased with the results before diving head in.

I'll keep you updated.

I wonder how much a body shop would charge to paint an antenna base!

This is my website for how I did it for my mustangs. The process would be the same and although I had a pro do the color and clear I am sure you could do that as well. I am thinking of taking on the same project.

Might do one when I get ready to do the truck one. I only want to do the caps as well and I am NOT going to pay for the other mirrors that have the caps.

I was going to do the power fold mirrors with the painted caps, but I got a price of around 1K for the mirrors, so that is out of the question. I would love to have it though.

New pics

Here's how my test piece came out from this past weekend for the antenna base. Plus I swapped our ranger antenna for mine, so I have a billet one now. The truck's paint is dirty too by the way.

Super easy, just took alot of time to do such a little part.

As recommended I sanded with 220, to get the texture out. Wash the part off, and reapeated again. Then I used the dulpli color filler primer. Sanded that with 600 wet. Wash part off and repeated two more times. Sprayed three coats of paint and two coats of clear.

The hardest part was getting rid of the texture on the unflat areas or rounded areas.

Going to do the mirrors this weekend if I get a chance.
