2wd vs 4x4

2wd vs 4x4

i got to thinking and wanted to ask.....

ok so people say that the 2wd coilover is 2" shorter than the 4x4... is it the strut or the coil which is smaller?

next, sense the 4x4 and 2wd are exactly the same except for the CV's, diff., and coilover, a 2wd with a 2" leveling kit will have the exact same angles as someone with a 4x4???? right??? so infact some one with a 2wd could actually lift the front of that thing with a 2" + a 2.5" leveling kit and have the same angles as a 4x4 with a 2.5" leveling kit????

last thing next time someone says hey can i add a 2" leveling kit to the front of my 2wd? i can respond... dude you can add 2' 2" leveling kits and be fine.... right???

dont respond if you are dumb and are going to say something you know nothing about!!!!!!! kinda like what i just did!!!

There are no "angles" on a 2WD. That term refers to CV angles, of which there are none on a 2WD. Theoretically, a 2WD would have the same HEIGHT as a 4x4 with a 2.5" spacer when equipped with 4x4 front coil overs plus a spacer. I believe procomplariat has 4WD coils in his 2WD truck.

well not necessarily there are upper controll arm angels which are kind of a big deal....

exactly. even though its only a 4x2, it is still an independet front suspension. if you stack 4" of spacers, your upper control arms will be maxed out, and you will have no suspension travel. hit a big pothole and your ***ked.

So no, you cant tell people with 4x2s that they will "be just fine" stacking spacers (unless your a total a$$hole!! )

There has to be something welded on the front end of the frame differently on a 4x4 compared to a 4x2. I know I had bad angles when I had a 2" offset AS on the front.

but that was my plan!!!!


but if its already 4" lower than a 4x4 with a 2" leveling kit, and they have the same front end... why not? why cant you put a 4" spacer in there? there must be a differance in other ways then just CV's and coilovers....

i believe the front spindle is different. i have a 2wd and i added the 2.5 AS in the front and the oem 4wd blocks in the rear. now i sit .5" higher in the front than a stock 4wd and the same in the rear as a stock 4wd. with my angles now, it would be impossible to add another 2" in the front. so i think the spindle or control arms are different.......

the coil itself is longer on a 4x4, a longer coil and a space do exact opposites and still recieve more hieght. a coil will push the lower control arm down giving u more height, where as a spacer pushed the entire assembly down. theoretically u should be able to use both at the same time. putting new coils on wouldnt mess with your upper arm angles. so when u put the spacer one first it will lower your upper arm putting a decent angle on it, but when u put the coil on it, that angle should be the same but now pushing your lower arm farther down giving you the two more inches

so if what you guys are saying is true, then I should be able to use the adjustable coil overs from either Rancho or Bilstein on my 2wd then, correct?

Hmm...yes I do have the 4wd coilovers. I have no problems with my Ball joint angles. But...I did have to crank them down to work with the Total Chaos arms, due to the uniball being maxed out.
