Clunking when turning

I have a 2005 XLT 2wheel drive that makes a clunking noise when turning. Not all the time but just when I'm turning into a parking spot or something simular. Has anybody else had this problem or know what it is?

I had a similar noise on my 04 2wd which turned out to be the bottom bolts loosening on my rear shackles. I tightened them a couple of turns and no more clunk.

Does the clunking sound like it's happening at the same RPM the tires may be turning or is it just a random clunk like something is loose?

Did you mod the front suspension if so maybe nut loose or you think the noise is coming from the transmission or your rear. Try to duplicate it and focus on where it's comming from.

I'm not discounting ball joints, but they would make noise even when driving straight.

not always, b.c when you turn due to caster, the weight is loaded/unloaded from side to side, when you are driving straight, even on a bumpy road, the weight is pretty evenly distributed....

I have had this same noise. It comes from the rear and only when turning. I took it into the dealer numerous times and they claimed it was just the limited slip ...they said some are louder than others. I don't know that I really believe the dealer on this one though. Any other ideas ?

It doesn't sound like something is loose. Someone told me it may be the clutch pack in the rearend.

Nothing, it's just doing what it is supposed to do. Well, you could swap out the LS for an open rearend, or you could stop turning corners.

Mine does it to. It's the LS actual doing it's job without getting into the moment of inertia where you slow down, then speed back and at the same time wheels turned. It only happen once an a while right.
