10 hours labor for gear swap front and rear?

I can do the rear under an hour easy... 9 hours to do the front seems a little far fetched.

$539 for a tuner and a custom dynotune seems pretty steep also. Considering you can find these tuners for $300 new on the internet all day long... I would atleast buy that online and just have then dynotune for $100

A little high but not that bad. I paid $525 for dyno tuning with an Xcal2 from VMPTuning and $1600 for my 4.88s and a Mag-Hytec differential cover. Tell them to throw in the cover for free and its a deal.

I'm not familliar with the Diablo tuners, but ~$1550 for the gears installed w/ parts and oil sounds about average to slightly high.

As FatherFord siad, gears definitely are not a 10 hour job. Granted you have to remove the front differential and install the gears on a bench, but that shouldn't add more than an hour to the labor. The first time I ever installed a ring & pinion it only took me about 2 hours. I think 5 hours would be more realistic for a quote and still leave some extra time.

I'm only speaking off the top of my head here without checking first, but didn't torturekilla say the tuner was around $420? The tuner itself was around $320 plus $100 for dyno time, so he just included it all in one.
That price list is from the same shop, is it not?

I'd take that deal as long as it's a Mag-Hytec or a girdle style cover like a TA Performance cover.

No, the invoice states $439 for the tuner plus $100 for the dyno tune. $539 and some odd cents total.

I realize this. I was just stirring it up based on info given in another thread.

Yeah, that woud be Brandon (I think his name was). I had a lil work done there. He might as well have duct taped my wrists to my ankles and bent me over the desk for what he charged me on the work he did on the Stang. His prices I won't recommend, and anybody else that has experience over there will likely give you the same reply. Still, it doesn't hurt to call and ask. He's a pretty knowledgable lad, for a youngin.

If ya want, I'll see what kinda price I can get for ya from Kennedy Ford in Oakville. I have a few connections there. I tried pm'ing you the other day but I'm still too much of a nooB on this site and it won't allow me to pm yet.
If it's not Ford gears you're looking for, I have another contact (TAG Racecraft) in Oakville I can try for ya. I'm pretty tight with Mel (owner/racer), and he can get whatever it is that you need. Whether it will be a deal or not is another question.

I'd pay good money to see that.

10 hours for front and rear gears, that's cheaper than I'd do it for.

I was just about to pick on him about that also! No way in hell can you properly regear the rear of the truck and from start to finish be done in an hr.

Yeah, no kid'n !!

Takes me an hour or so to swap the 3rd member in the 9" in my mustang. That's just swapping 3rd memebers and refilling. And anyone who knows anything 'bout racing knows the Ford 9" is the poor-man's quick change.

So, NO WAY he can change gears in less than an hour, LOL. Jack it up, pull the axels, remove the cover......nope, no way!

10 hours seems resonable with some extra wiggle room in case they run into problems.

I'm not sure about trucks, but when I had my Mustang re-geared in the rear, it took the shop 2.5 hours just to do the rear diff. Swapped 3.08's for FRPP 3.73's, had to correctly shim the rear, check pinion angle, etc..

The whole job plus Flowmaster install, and 3 dyno pulls with ECU tuning cost me $500.

I guess let me rephrase...

I can do it in under an hour if none to slight adjustments are needed. I think it took roughly an hour to do my 9.75. That driving it in, then driving it out.

I used to install gears on the side for 8.8 mustang all the time. Drive into the driveway and drive out in under 2 hours for $75. Most of the time it was right around an hour.

This does not include changing out clutch packs or what not. Reusing bearings if possible. If it was a full rebuild though, replacing bearings etc. yeah it does take a while. I just pulled the rear end out of the car for that.

What takes you an hour to switch out a 9" center section? Drinking a 6 pack while doing it? lol
