Edge Evolution_EEF2400 Question(s)

Hi Everyone,

I recently purchased a used Edge programmer and was reading through the instructions. Installation is very staright forward. However, in reading the instructions, it indicates the Edge will automatically make a backup of my stcok program from the PCM before writing a new program.

Does the Edge do it once I turn the key on when it reads the and reports the Truck's Hex code?

Should I try to update the software before I try connecting and programming? The date of manufacture is 9/20/2006 Ver. E3.20.20

Anything else I should know before I hook it up? I Have a 04 FX4 with the 5.4 motor.

TIA!

Dannyo

The backup of your stock program is accomplished the first time you program your truck using the Edge. That's why it takes longer to load the tunes the first time you program your vehicle.

As far as updating the Edge before connecting it to your truck: it's up to you. I don't think you'll have any problems programming a MY2004 truck using your Edge's current version, but updating your Edge won't hurt anything, either.

Another question:
I have a 2004 with a build date of 08/04. My throttle response was much worse than my buddy's 2005. I was going to have the dealer reflash my PCM, but bought an Edge instead.

Is the Edge ("base tune" + ##) or is it an entire new load? I love my Edge, but it might be even better if my "base tune" was better.

I hope this makes sense. I confused myself typing this.
