2.5 tons of brick later, i'm impressed with the F150
our dog puglsey recently learned he can jump the low brick wall fences at our house--only took him a year:) so the brick walls had to come down to prep for a new, taller fence...i started right after work on friday evening...
i took a sledge and busted up both walls then hauled it all off to the landfill--2.5 tons according to my scales slips i was loaded down pretty good, took 3 trips to spread it out, although my middle trip totalled over 1 ton of payload--didn't set out to haul that much, it was decieving as it didn't squat the tail any more than the first load, still a good 2 inches from the bumpstop felt plenty of power hauling that kind of weight, i wouldn't need anymore without a drastic increase in payload after i hauled it off, i came back from work yesterday and hooked up a chain to the footings pulled them out...low range and this 5.4 has plenty of low-end pulling power imo getting 15.75 mpg in town and 18.5 on the highway with plenty of runs at 20mpg is pretty good in my book too, as is the 16 mpg flat-towing my jeep i have to say, for a '1/2 ton' pickup, this thing flat out performs... although i'd have liked to have a long bed 3/4 ton diesel to minimize my trips to the landfill and have more towing power for the future, i'm finding it hard to want to get rid of this one, especially when gas is 2.54 and diesel is 2.89 around here right now:) anyhow, just a positive post from one owner--take it with a grain of salt:smoke: |
It's nice to finally see a post from someone who:
A) Appreciates the fact that their truck is a truck, and performs well as such. and B) Doesn't complain about MPG, or some other annoyance. Nice going. |
This is good to hear seeing as in the next day or so I need to haul a yard or two of gravel for a project I've started. I wasn't sure if the old '04 could handle it seeing as 1 yard can weigh as much as 2500 lbs. I feel much better about it now.

you have your head on straight, should do you just fine--lemme know how it goes:) |

here is 2900lbs of blocks, but I have airbags and 10ply tires. I would never put that much in if I still had P series tires on it cause that is the weak link in the program. |

Well, did the deed this morning. Hauled 2 yards (1 at a time:p ) of 3/4 gravel home for my project. Each load was in the neighborhood of 2500 lbs (+ or -) and she moved it like a champ. Apart from the fact I was pointed at the clouds for the whole trip (about 2 miles) you'd never know it was moving all that weight. Step on the throttle and it drove smoothly off the line, steering was great and stopping was effortless. My only concern was the "P" tires, if I'm going to carry loads like that over a distance I'll need to invest in a set of proper LT's.
