Opinion on what is normal wear and tear

Ok .. I need opinions on whether I am just being OC, or I am realistic in my expectations that the Dealer should fix my problems ..

Truck is a year old, and 16k on the clock, and I have two cosmetic issues that are driving me crazy.

1. Driver's seat has two small worn spots on the door side top edge of the seat cushion leather.. obviously caused from me getting in and out of the truck .. it is pure friction, as I don't wear jeans, or anything with rivits, and only smooth leather belts.

2. Brake pedal pad is worn though to the metal on the right side of the brake .. probably from all the Houston stop and go traffic I am driving in every day.

I understand that both of these are normal wear items.. and I would be fine with that if the truck was several years old, or had 60k+ miles on it ..

I just don't think I should be having these issues with a 12 month old truck, especially one that isn't used as a work truck.

do I have unrealistic expectations, or should I take it in to the dealer, with the expectations of them fixing my issues?

I just want a reality check.

I swear I'm going crazy but I think the Beige leather wears much differently. My 2004 F150 with the Beige leather was wearing like that with only 15,000 miles on the clock. My Black leather in my 2006 shows no signs of wear with 17,000 miles on it.

The seat wear doesn't sound normal. Maybe get them to give you a free bottom cover, that you could hold onto for when the one you have now rips?

I would replace the brake pad myself, just because I would be embarrassed complaining about it.

those issues should be covered under your warranty... but... here's a trick that everyone needs to know...

BITCH!

I can't up-sell warranty. If the ball joints are moving and I'm not doing a state inspection and it's in warranty, I can't replace them unless the customer bitches about it.

I've replaced a few covers for wear under 36/36. That pedal cover should be the same thing...

normal wear and tear is negotiable, if you complain enough and not just to the dealer but the ford rep and such it will get replaced... also, if you get the right writer...

thanks for the opinions ..

I understand normal wear and tear .. I just don't think I should be wearing through things at 16k.

I have had very good luck with my dealer's service Dept so far .. so I will see what happens with this stuff.

and my real issue is the seat .. if I have to, I'll spring for the new pedal myself ..

The tan leather in some of the vehicle models doesn't hold up well. After 1 year, the passeger seat in the wife's Sport Trac was worn through by the door. The dealer ordered new leather. They even bought me lunch while I waited for it to be installed. The tan leather in her Expedition is quite a bit thicker.

The floor mat in my '05 FX4 tore through the eye-let. The dealer replaced both front mats no questions asked.

Depends on your dealer. Most will treat you right. Some won't.

the seat is covered under warranty i had mine replaced and its on the recall list there is a a piece of metal under the seat that causes it to do this they remove the cover put rubber over the sharp metal and then replace the cover with a new one. about the brake i am unsure i'd say wear and tear...

My flint leather seats are holding up very well. Look the same as the new day. I have heard others say that the tan leather does not hold up well, as well. Talk about it enough, and they usually work something out with you. Good luck.

I have had good luck in dealing with Joe Myers Ford on 290. I wouldn't hesitate to ask them to look at this for you. My experience with them has been nothing but positive. Good luck to you.

Is there really a recall for the seats?

not a recall but I wouldn't be surprised about a TSB. A recall is safety only... s seat cusion ripping isn't exactly going to make the vehicle unsafe to drive. I just look, say yup, needs a cover, and replace the cover... if it's due to a rip, I'll make sure it doesn't rip again.

Gipraw, I had a similar problem with mine while under warranty. The dealer replaced the seat cover under warranty. The next one though, did the same thing. It was the flint seats, but when it wore, it showed tan. If I had a tan interior, I never would have known. I do think that was my last leather interior though. Just don't like it.
