crazed or cracked headlights

Woke up this morning and decided to wax the truck. Used the Maguires 3 step and it worked great. Did it by hand with no machine. While doing this I noticed that both of my headlights are starting to Craze. At least thats what it looks like. Small little cracks. Almost looks like there were tons of pebbles that chipped the lens. I took a pic and was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. The cracks were not there last week when I washed it. Also in the first pic the lenses are clean it is not bug splatter. I also took some pics of the wax job. Thanks for any help.........

Whatever you do, I encourage you not to purchase the headlight restoration kit. For some reason the 2500 grit is not enough to get out the final scratches, the entire headlight looks hazy and ruined. I just purchased another one after going through all that :[

Take it in for warranty repair if you are still under warranty!!!

I just had this happen to me last week and hadn't had a chance to post it yet. I was detailing my truck 2 wks ago and noticed the headlights were "peeling" in several spots. It didn't look exactly like yours...more like when skin peels from a sunburn. Decided to take the truck in to the dealer as this is my last month of warranty and have it checked out. The dealer said they hadn't seen it before, didn't even know there was a coating on the lights to peel, but that it was not normal and they replaced both headlights 2 days later...they also replaced my third brake light for leaking. Definitely take it in and have them replaced under warranty if you can.

They are not really scratches, they are cracks right through the lens. I have to take it in real soon for other warranty items due to the fact that I have 28,000 miles on it now. I'll let you guys know the outcome as soon as it is fixed.

Well I took the truck in for the warranty work. The warranty Mgr. said they wouldn't replace the lights due to they were rock chips. I asked him to take a look at the front bumper and the whole front clip. I know damn well that the paint is not stronger than the headlights. Also for the amount of small cracks that are in the lights the front of the truck would be plastered with chips. He found not 1 chip or scratch.

Then he said I must have put HID lighting in and now that was the problem. I told him "Yah I worked at the ford plant and installed them when the truck was built" and just about decked him. Then I talked with the GM of the store and I was told to contact Ford and make a complaint. Did that and they agreed with the warranty ****. Next step is talking with the owner of the dealership. I can't even believe this is happening. I'm 35 and have purchased all my vehicles through them since I was 18. Never a problem until now over a set of headlights.

I'll update again when I find more out.

That looks like rock marks to me. The foglights on mine are a lot worse than that. It looks like somebody lightly sandblasted them. They show up a lot worse on the clear headlight than they do on the bumper, and with it being plastic it usually won't chip like the lower painted bumpers (like I got) will. If you want to stop it where it is now, the companies that make the clear bumper covering (clearmask.com) also makes headlight and foglight covers that will eliminate this problem and can be replaced when they get to looking like that.
