Extended waranty,.........

I have an '05 S'Crew XLT, 2wd, 5.4.
I am close to 25k miles, and I am considering getting an extended waranty. knock on wood, truck has not seen the dealership. What are your thoughts on it? Anyone gotten one and ^@*% glad they got one?

If you got it new, and know the maintenance records, then I wouldn't bother. Any factory defect would have shown up by now.

I agree with this.

I have the same year model as yours [different trim & 4X4] and about the same milage [20K]. I seriously contemplated purchasing an extended warrant by the year's end [the longer you leave it, the more it'll cost] but several in the know [my Ford service manager and two other Ford mechanics who are friends] have pretty much said what F151 has. Any major issues would have risen their collective ugly heads by now.

It's been into the dealership for a couple of [very] minor electrical issues in the past but the power/drivetrain has never given me any problems.

I think I'll spend that 1K plus on some interior [headrest DVD] mods in the not too distant future.

Thanks guys,....I have had it since new. It never made it off the lot before i bought it, not even a Service check. Odometer read .3 miles.
Just keep wondering, with the cam phaser, steering rack and spark plug issues.... a waranty might be worth it for piece of ming to 100k miles.
But on the other hand.......

I am kind of in the same boat as you, except I am out of warrenty and cant a factory one now.

I have purchased a few in the past. Here is what I learned. #1, you still pay something if you need a repair. Most have a deductible. #2, they dont always cover everything. The drivetrain is the important stuff. #3, they are expensive. You get what you pay for. The cheaper it is, the less they cover. And the most important.. #4, I have never had to use any of them!!!!! I either sold the truck before the factory warrenty ended, or I sold it soon after it ended.

Here is how I look at things. A GOOD warrenty is about 1500 bucks. So now that my truck is out of warrenty, I wil spend round 1500 bucks in repairs before I decide to get rid of it.
I have an 04 with 45K on it. My cam phasers knock a bit. I complained while I still had a warrenty left, but they did not fix it. Yeah, my spark plugs might break, but I will most likely get rid of the truck in another 30-40K. So far he only repairs my truck has needed from day 1 has been the fuel door broke in the ice. That was all. I am pretty confident that even if somehing does go wrong, it wont be major.

Look at how many peope DONT TAKE CARE of their cars, and how much all of us do. Their cars run fine, and I hope ours will to. Without spending a bunch on warrenty.

depends... I've seen vehicles have diff problems right around 40k and the cost to repair it would have equalled the cost to have an extended warranty which would have covered that for $50 deduct and then continue until 60k... so I would recommend it if you have the money.

I've seen people not use their ESPs at all, and I've seen people (yes 150s as well) use ESPs every other month for something else.

I don't see much going wrong with my truck... 4x2, v6, 5 spd... the engine is very solid, so is the transmission... not to mention the entire drivetrain. Plus the windows, locks, and no luxury junk makes it really cheap to afford.

I'd certainly get an esp if I had a v8, 4x4, automatic, power windows, locks, seats, heated seats, moonroof, power sliding window, and especially the backup sensors...

famous last words...

v6 engines suck... their intake manifolds always leak and throw codes right out of warranty... no real good towing combination...

although if I had a basic truck I wouldn't bother with an ESP either...

Just wondering, did you check on the price? What does it cover? I was wondering how much a bumper to bumper extended was. Something that would cover the seats etc. I am going to say near 2,000...

If you do get one, make sure it is pro-rateable. This way if you do sell it, you get cash back.

My Xterra was 890 bucks for a full bumper to bumper extended from 36,000 to 100,000.. That was an awsome deal... But you HAD to do it from new... I did. But I sold it after 6 months. Got all my oney back. That was great deal. I have never seen a domestic Co. offer something like that.
