Getting an oil change and they came in and said that if I want my throttle body cleaned (because it's got carbon deposites in it) it would be $150. Is this something you guys have done, do you do it yourself? Is that too much $$$? I told them to hold off for now.
Thanks for any help!

Yeah
I did a seacrh and thought i saw poeple had replaced them for around $140. I tried to search and find out how to go about cleaning it but i really have no clue where to start.

just go to autozone and get throttle body cleaner spray, let your engine cool then remove your intake, open the butterfly, spray cleaner inside make sure to get all the dirt, grab a old shop rag and wipe it out repeat process one or two more times if needed to remove all dirt and that its all. no need to pay 150 dollars for a 5 min job. i clean mine every oil change just to make sure there is never any build up in there.
I've been driving fuel injection since it was used on "common" cars and I've never cleaned a throttle body or needed to. Of course, the highest miles I have had on a vehicle was 179,000 miles (but the last time I saw the truck it has 220,000 miles on it and it still had not needed cleaning).

could be a scam... or could be an advisor that's trying to come up with words to explain what the tech wrote down... I know my writing looks more like a doctor's signature and the advisor's have a hell of a time reading it. Just remember when you talk to that smiling guy/girl up at the counter... he/she is not a mechanic and more often than not has never picked up a wrench ever before.
