Wheel well issue...

I noticed tonight when I was looking under my truck, I noticed that I dented up the wheel wells inside of the bed when I loaded the concrete... is this normal?! My plastic liner didn't even get knickes where the dents are... I haven't pulled off the liner yet... but from the looks of it, 2 are kind of big.

You can't see it unless you are actually inside of the wheel well... but it kind of surprised me that Ford wouldn't have made that area of the bed a little stronger...

Not like I really care if they are dented... it's just that it kind of surprised me.

I've seen soda cans that could hold up to more abuse than my F150's body panels. I've got dings and dents inside and out of my truck's bed (along with hood, roof and tailgate) .

Now that's exactly what I wanted to hear...

I wonder what my truck would look like if I did this everyday?!

I havent hauled much in my 06, but my 99 was the same way. Any time after I hauled something that would hit the wheel wells I would get big dents.

I just took a rubber mallet and beat them out from the outside/bottom of the truck. Wasnt perfect, but it looked better than dents everywhere.

I'm just curious but do you think its any different with any other brand?

We're talking about concrete against a thin metal. These trucks already weigh a ton. .

Well... that's a good question... I dunno how the other brands are...

I would think that Ford would have made them a guage or two thicker... figuring all the abuse they'd get.

Now lemme ask this... as I forgot on my '99... is the wheel well bigger in height than on the OBS for the NBS? Because if the NBS have bigger wheel wells, than of course they will get banged up more.

Again, not like I really care... and if I really wanted to, I could like Bartak said with rubber mallet. I know I'm probably going to do more damage to them from use... but hey, that's what I bought it for.

Hell your the one that was bragging about how you "use" your truck and don't care about a few dents and scratches because its a truck. Remember your dont use yours as a car just to get from point A to point B...its a truck so you haul and pull stuff with it. So you got a few dents...big deal its just proof you use your truck. Hell what do you have a bed liner for anyway...pull that thing out so you can see all the scars from all that work you do with it.

I said numerous times that I don't care as this post really isn't of concern to my truck, but rather others... the reason I've got a bed liner in it is because it's way easier to clean when I need to haul precious cargo like computers and equipment.

We have two (OMG hold your breathe) Chevys (a 96 and an 03). The 96 probably gets more abuse than all the trucks on this site added together and its wheel wells only have small half dollar sized dents in some places
I cant even haul a propane tank for my grill in my bed and it looks like it went through 'Nam.

Interesting... I suppose one of these days, when my truck really gets the "worn" in look... I'll go to a machine shop and have them cut and weld me on some covers made out of a heavy guage steel or something... maybe go fancy... who knows.... but probably by then my F150 would be sitting behind my poll barn and used only for around the house hauling...

As I've said before TIN. That's what the FORD BEANCOUNTERS (That's they're REAL name in Detroit) planned for you.

You were loading concrete into the bed of a pick-up truck, and now you wonder where the dents came from?

One of our dump trucks has steel 3/8" "400,000 psi" on the bed and 2' up the sides, it was built for hauling concrete, black top, ect. It even had dents all over in the inside the bed. My work truck has so many dents in the wheel wells, and on the bed floor that you probably couldn't even count them. And actually there are 2 spots on the bed floor that have been patched back it because something got punched through them, I remember that the one was from the hydro breaker for our Bobcats.

Maybe I'm just going insane! LOL but my buddy who I work with has a '02 F150 #7700 package and I took a look in his wheel wells this morning, and he's got some pretty bad dents (some way worse than mine)... so I guess it's just normal. haha
