Trailers are a PITA

I've been taking loads of concrete to the city dump and where they have the drop off zone, it's like a backwoods area with 1/2 to 1 foot ruts... and you've got to back the trailer in because there is no place to turn around. So I spent like 20 minutes trying to get my trailer to stay straight for like 500 feet... sooo much fun.

What is even better was this guy was trying to get his trailer in and was having a difficult time... it took him about 20 minutes to get it in... so I didn't feel so bad. I was helping direct him in... we both agreed that it's just easier to load it in the bed.... no messing around.

Right now I've got like only 2000 lbs left... which is just gonna go in the bed of the truck...

I friggin hate trailers.

I was helping a buddy move.
He had a lot of other help that arrived that morning before me.
They were parked hodge-podge all over the yard.
They were all standing around when I arrived with the trailer.
From the street I spotted his front door, put it in reverse and here I come.

Had my window down and heard the comments as I ran the slalom in reverse.

"Look at him go"
"Man that guy can back that trailer."

I've got awards and certificates through the years but, none of them means as much as what I heard thru that window that day.

Murphy states that if you're towing a trailer and you're the only one within 1000 miles in the area, when you go to put the trailer in you'll land it on the very first try like a frickin' pro.

And that when there's someone else around, you'll take like an hour getting it into position and if you're lucky you won't hit anything or anyone in the process.

when we dropped of a car at my friends house on a car dolly my friends didnt think i could back the trailer out of the alley without pulling forward to straighten out. The tires never touched the grass

Then when i was dropping off the full trailer we just had to uhual, I offered to bring it around back, and i perfectly parked it in its spot, between a truck and another trailer, and it was pretty tight, i had to come in at a little bit of an angle.

Trailers arent that hard, you just have to take it slow and plan ahead as you are backing up

Im 20 and can put a 53 footer right to your door. Ive been driving since I was like 14 and we have a small lot so you have to be really good to get it to our dock. Many years of driving in tight lots makes me look like a champ when backing up, except when you dont have a trailer on and forget so you turn the wrong way.

I am nearly double your age (not quite, but close), and have been driving longer than you've been alive. That said, I have occasion to tow maybe twice a year. It has been picking up since most of my friends have hitch toys, and their mini trucks won't yank them... But I still have trouble with boat trailers. Keeping the dang thing straight when you loose sight of it on the boat launch is NO FUN...

I keep trying to talk my boat owning no truck having friend into putting those PVC uprights on his trailer... So far, no go... Cheap son of a gun...

Smaller the trailer, the more of a pain it is, IMO.

But Quintin you're exactly right. No one is around I can back up a trailer as fast as I want. People around, I find myself going so much slower.

I always put my tailgate down when I am going down the ramp or backing any small trailer.

Were you using a single axle Manual150? The more wheels ya got the easier it is!

I was using a smaller 8X12 single axle... What would happen is that the wheels on the trailer would get hung up on the ruts, and it would shift position, thus making it very difficult to manuver. I'm sure if we both had double or even triple axle trailers, it would make it so much easier.

x2 on the point when people are around... it makes it feel like you are performing a circus act.

I finally just got down and just loaded it into the bed... the rest of the pile at 2750 lbs.

The rear end squatted like crazy!

Drove kind of weird though.... haha
