Sad day

well sad day. I just returned home from a 2k mile trip, and the next day I was driving around town running paying bills, stopped at a light, and i look in my rear view mirror to see a 93 caviler not stopping or even slowing down. so going 30 miles an hour in that car firmly wedges itself under my truck and pushes me into the car ahead. so not only did she damage the rear she got the front too. 230 in the afternoon the cops were nice enough to take her beer away and dump it down the drain, while they stabalized her and the passenger and took them away in the ambulance.

It pushed the exhaust pipe on the left into the differential enough to dent the pipe, and obviously wedge the tips up and under the bumper. The front is not too too bad, pushed the bull bar and the lights into that plastic piece right above the bumper. Guess I get a new one, and new lights

It doesn't look too bad as long as the frame wasn't tweaked. You should get a new rear bumper, bullbar and exhaust out of the deal.

WHIP LASH! Hell yea I'd be bitching about everything I possibly could.

Doesn't carfax report this as being in a accident which could affect your resell value?

Not to mention the fact that you probably was "your" fault for rearending the person infront of you.... at least that's the way it works in the great state of NY.

So not only does your insurance go up, but you they make you feel like it was somewhat of "your" fault.

I had a guy rearend me in my Escape, I pushed me about 1/2 a car length forward with brakes fully applied. Thank God there wasn't a car infront of me.. or I would have probably damn near killed the guy who rearended me. I was just about ready to do that at the time... but that would have compounded my situation.

By chance, do you have a frontal picture of the truck?!

sorry to hear about your tranny!

I will put a picture of the front on if I can take one where you can actually tell the damage, gonna have to take a side or angled shot...The cop who came to the scene said it was 100% her fault. I was stopped at a normal traffic stop space and was pushed forward into the car, there is a point where stopping 20 feet behind the car in front of you is a little ridiculous.

Ouch! Sorry about your bad luck. It's too bad you didn't have your hitch on. That may have absorbed some of the rear damage. I don't always leave my hitch on, but for some reason I always feel a little better when I do, knowing that any car behind me not paying attention that hits me will receive the hitch first, possibly not damaging my truck, but definitely doing a number on their car..

I have a Line of Fire installed, but my hitch has a 2-3/8" ball. My goal would be to stop the crank of the motor with my receiver, should someone hit me.

My wife was rearended twice in one year, I have a soft spot for this issue.

Seriously im glad it wasnt that major and it looks as though all there is to do is a new bumper and redo the exhaust. Oh and the front, but i cant see it because you havent posted pics.

Well, the true sad part is that the driver of the cavalier had to ruin 3 other peoples days too. You, the person infront of you, and their passenger.

Yup and you'll bend your frame when a bumper could be the only thing needing to be replaced.

Well, I'm gonna say the passenger was as flat out stupid as the driver.

That sucks man, hit 'em where it hurts.

What's the bumper attached to?

It's all relative to the severity of the collision. With a mild fender bender, I'd rather they hit my hitch.

The bumper and hitch are both attached to the frame. A bumper will bend on the hitch while the hitch will just cause the frame to bend.

Trust me, these frames arn't designed to take a beating and remain true. They bend and absorb the impact. I've seen so many people bend frames offroad by thinking they could ****** someone out sideways. Sure it worked as well as the frame getting tweaked.

Ouch, sorry to hear about that, even if most of the damage is an easy fix or not.
