Explain this one

I have a 2004 4.6. With the edge I keep getting a throttle forced code when I accelerate quickly in both setting 2 and 3. Edge said they can't help that they know some trucks do it but they don't know why. I got the bright idea to change out the Throttle position sensor hoping to correct this (there is a TSB for the 2004). I bought one at auto zone but when I went to change it out the new part had 3 contacts and the old part and plug had 4, off set and would not match up. Is it possible that my truck (and others that have this problem) were designed with a different TPS that Ford quickly went away from. It was manufactured in May of 2004. I checked other auto parts stores and none of the aftermarket TPS's are made like mine.

On my 04 the only time I get that code is if I'm in a rush and start up and slam it in reverse too quickly. Almost guaranteed to do that on a cold engine.

This may be apples and oranges but, when i had idling problems Ford installed a new throttle body unit in my truck. The Tech told me the old or early Throttle body style they removed was 2 pieces and the revised new style they replaced it is one. Maybe that could account for the connection difference

You've got the wrong sensor. They gave you a sensor for a Heritage or previous gen F150.

Besides, you shouldn't use that aftermarket garbage. Get a Ford sensor if you really want to replace it. It's supposed to have four pins - one pin is TP1 signal, another is TP2, and the last two are signal return and reference voltage.

ETA - And replacing the sensor is only part of the suggested repair. The PCM must be recalibrated to the latest level. And if you're getting this concern only when the Edge is in place, maybe it's the Edge's fault, not the truck...
