Seal A Puncture Foam

Has anyone tried the foam that is spouse to temporaly seal a puncture in your tire? Just wondering if it would be worth picking up to carry around for those times when you get a flat and its pouring rain or snow, or pitch black and it just not a good time to change a flat. Something to maybe get you 10 miles or so down the road to a garage or a better spot to change a tire.

Mainly thinking for my girlfriend who does alot of highway drive at night around 11 or 12pm coming home from work. Would this type of product work to get her 10 minutes or so up the road?

I used fixaflat once.I had a can in the tool box by chance and my spare was flat.It kinda worked I guess I went about 10 miles on it to a shop to get a plug put in the flat. The problem came when I got new tires about 4 months later. The foam was bonded to the inside of the rim and they could not get it all out. That wheel leaked air it was a slow leak but it leaked and I was never able to get it balanced.I ended up getting a new rim.

Thats what I was thinking. But I guess it would still be some what handy to have in the case of an emergency, and you can always end up with two flats at the same time sooo...

I used it one time before when I was headed from kansas city to denver for a chiefs-broncos game about 9 years ago. It was on a 97 Cavalier and it happened about 20 miles from my house with a long trip in front of me, filled it with fix a flat and never had a problem. In fact, I never changed the tire and drove on it til it was traded in. Probably around 30000 miles on it with no problems. I wouldn't suggest this for everyone but I was young and had somewhere to be. Football sometimes just has to take priority and I did check it after 20 miles and every gas stop in between. Then basically forgot about it until now. Go Chiefs!!!

I keep a big can of fix a flat in my truck just in case. Seriously if it's bad out or unsafe the cost of cleaning up or replacing a wheel is acceptable since it keeps my wife and kids safe.

couple things about fix-a-flat

1) chances are it will render your tire unrepairable even in the event the original injury could have been fixed
2) it voids all manufacture warranties on tires
3) it causes chrome wheels to peel (spreads like cancer)
4) it can stain polished, painted, and clear coated wheels both inside the barrel and on the face if it drips on it when you put it in or remove the tire
5) it can render your tire almost impossible to balance even after you think it has all been removed from inside
6) the tire tech who changes the tire will hate you and wish death upon you
7) about 70-80% of the time it wont seal the puncture for more than a half an hour or so
8) every time you use it god kills a baby seal, so dont use it

if you can live with these have fun with fix a flat
