now i just find this to be bull****.

from rambos post -

The truck will launch in the fall of 2008 (as a 2009 model) with:
4V DOHC PFI 3.7l V6 (about 280 ft.lbf at 2000 rpm) (not sure about transmission)
3V SOHC PFI 4.6l V8 with 6speed auto (Explorer combo - 292 hp and 300 lb.-ft)
3V SOHC PFI 5.4l 6speed auto (Expedition combo - 300 hp and 365 lb.-ft ) - likely with somewhat more power than this (about 325hp and 380lb-ft)
NO BOSS ENGINES

2009 1/2 Model (Februaury 2009) will add:
2V SOHC PFI 6.2l V8 BOSS engine (iron block, aluminium head) with 6speed auto (425hp)

If that is true, wtf, why would they release a truck, then 5 months later come out with a whole nother version of the same model with a new engine?

i just find that really stupid.

FYI, that was Igor's post, and according to Dearborn Derek Igor is A LOT closer than the article from Edmund's.

I could see the v8's Happening, if they make a more power 3V 5.4 i hope they have parts that can swap on to the current 3V 5.4L..... Wonder if we could swap that 6 speed on the current 5.4L as of now?

Umm, it's not a 'whole nother version'. Consider it 'Job 2'. It's the same truck, just the new V8 is added as an option, the same as the '97 F150 didn't have the 5.4 at launch.

How long was the gap tho? like how long after the 97 came out did they wait to come out with the 5.4

6-8 months if I remember correctly. The truck was released in January and the 5.4 wasn't available until late summer or fall...I think. Could be off by a couple months, but I'm thinking that's correct.

I do take this story with a large grain of salt. For a car related company to not know what diesel engine is in the super duty, is bad.

97 truck was for sale in January 96, then 5.4L was in lots in Sept 96.

Keep in mind the 4.6L was first available then and with 220hp seemed like it would be ok for most guys. The old 5.)l had then 200 adn the 5.8L had 220 I think. BUt of course the 5.8L had mcuh more tq than the new 4.6. The 97 & 98 5.4L had 235 hp but much more tq than 4.6 due to longer stroke. For 99 model 5.4 was bumped to 260.
