Offroading with CAI
Offroading with CAI
Ok, this is something that has really been bothering me and I cant seem to find much about it by searching.
I am getting an intake, infact I pretty much have an AF1 bought, but the thing I am worried about is offroading with one.
It seems like these trucks splash an unGodly amount of water and mud up in the engine compartment, I noticed right where an open filter would be siting from a CAI looks like its very chittily protected, and I do get mud and water on my stock intake tube there. So now Im worried about sucking water or mud into my engine whenever I go through a mud puddle.
Am I being overly paranoid, or has anyone ran into issues like this? I know you can get the prewrap things for the filters, but I honestly dont trust them THAT much.
Anyone wanna throw in there 2 cents?
Thanks.

You shouldn't have much to worry about for meer mud puddles. Now if your out here in Kansas, Oklahoma, and North Texas that's a whole different story as our mud puddles tend to swallow towns.

Sometimes I like to play in town swallowing holes though
The 'sucking up water driving through puddles' was a bit of an exageration (sp) but then again some of the puddles I go through just to get to my house make me wonder sometimes:o
I live in the sticks and low low land where even a 1.5 inch rain will sit around for DAYS, and we like to go out and play.
I think my first post might have given you guys the impression I only go through water 1/4 way up my wheels....lol.
I dunno, maybe I am too friggin paraniod.

I was really considering the S&B for the same reason...just hadnt heard much about it as far as power and some others things. Everyone says its great...but everyone's idea of great is different.
I got a nice deal on this AF1 so I went for it. I figure if I decided I need a closed airbox setup there would always be someone willing to trade thier S&B for an AF1 if I do a little sweet talking
