My buddy and mine...matching rigs...
He copied me, but anyway...

Mine:
2007 Fx4 Supercab (6.5 foot bed) 5.4L 18" BFG's, front buckets with flow-through console, sunroof, power seats, 3.73's, etc...
His:
2007 Fx4 Super Crew (6.5 foot bed) 5.4L 20" Pirelli's, buckets with flow-through console, sunroof, power seats, sliding rear window, etc...
--
The first time I saw his truck, I was really impressed...the Super Crew and the 6.5' bed look REALLY nice...and the 20's look nice also.
Am I correct in assuming his is 3.55's as you can't get the 3.73's with the 20" wheels?

With the 20s its even more likely he has 3.73 or 4.1 stock. Bigger tires = needs more aggressive gearing.
You both have nice rigs
**I stand corrected. I see in another post with the 20s you apparently can only get 3.55 gearing...totally counter-intuitive

bigger and heavier wheel/tire combo needs more aggressive gears to get it rolling easier.

Thanks fellas
Yeah, I know you can't get the 4.10's -- I tried for a while, but just couldn't find one with it -- maybe if you special order it.
Anyway...
275/65/18 = 32.1 in. diameter
275/55/20 = 31.9 in. diameter
So really when you have the 18's, your tires are a little bit taller. The sidewall on the 20's are smaller -- 20's = 5.88" whereas 18's = 7" in sidewall.

ALL……
FORD cannot afford (nor can most any other auto-company) to have multiple spare sizes for certain vehicles. Therefore, the spare for the F150 is on an 18” rim REGARDLESS of the wheel option. If you have a 20” or 18” wheel, your spare is the same height in the end. This means that the 20” package and the 18” package are the same height.
The 3.73 gears is part of the trailer towing package. One can also order a truck with the 3.73 even w/o the trailer tow. The 4:10 can only be had with the heavy duty package, along with the 7 lug axels.
