F150: Slug or Not

In about a month i will have to decide on a truck. The two forerunners are the F150 and the Titan, and i know people might say get a Tundra but for some reason a truck that looks like it got caught in a trash compactor doesnt appeal to me. What i want to know is if what i hear is true. Everywhere i go i hear the f150 cant get out of its own way and is a complete slug, sometimes even with modifications. Mind you, i know mods help, but for someone with a limited budget, will something like the Titan that already has above average power bone stock be a better choice? The f150 blows it away in interior and exterior styling, but i dont want to have to watch Grandma pass me in her 86' Olds. every day of my life. Does CAI, exhaust, and tune do that much?

i guess what i want to know is any general info about how the f150 may be a better choice than the titan. And yes i have searched the forum and cant find anything straightforward, but any help you can give would be great.

All you are going to get are people's opinions, and since you are on a Ford website guess what people are going to say? I personally just don't like the looks of the titan inside or out. Hell, I would get the Tundra before I would get the Nissan, but as you can see I went with the Ford. True it's not the fastest truck, but it is what it is and that's a tough no nonsense truck. Yes, adding CAI, Exhaust, and a good set of custom tunes will put it right back there with a Nissan Titan. So if you have the money for those 3 mods and you like the looks of the F-150 better then this should really be a no brainer.

So you say that the F150 blows the Titan away in (and i quote) " Exterior and interior styling." Sounds like your the type of guy that just wants to settle for whatever he can get with a good engine.

From the factory, these trucks are designed to be just that -- a truck. That means they are built, primarily, for pulling and towing -- not speed.

Adding a tune, a CAI, and a decent exhaust will help dramatically in the speed department, bringing the vehicle up to a very acceptable level of performance in this area, in my opinion. However, I have to kind of laugh at guys who buy a truck to go drag racing. As with most things in life, you can't be all things to all people!

If you want to haul things, get a truck. If you want to haul a$$, get a muscle car. Trying to get a vehicle to do both extremely well is like trying to have your cake and eat it to.....

I don't think my truck is that slow. . sure it's not as fast as a Titan but at least I know it's going to hold up.

No read again. He said the F-150 blows it away in exterior and interier styling.

I could not said it better. One thing i will add is the SAFETY of these trucks. I have seen several horrible wrecked F-150's, and the people inside come out of them with minor injuries. Do some research, get on Ford's website and view the video about "Truth about Trucks". Safety, and a well built truck is all that matter's to me.......

i think mine is pretty slow.off the line it wont turn the tires over.once you get going it is pretty fast.

my other 2 cars are a beefed up z28 and a ninja 636,so just about everything to me is pretty slow.

i have exhaust and a k&n drop in filter and thats about all i would o to it motor wise,i didnt buy it so i could have a fast truck, thats for sure.i bought mine for comfort of being able to haul stuff plus its a great looking and riding truck.if i wanted a fast truck i would have went with a lightning, but who wants a fast truck, lol.ill just stick with my z28 when i want to turn the tires over.

i appreciate all your opinions so far and i understand what you are saying completely. What i really was wanting to know is if the f150 becomes not fun to drive because of its lack in acceleration. The last thing i want is to drag race my truck. I just want something that looks good, has great functionability, and is somewhat fun to drive. As for the titans looks, i love the way it looks just not as much as the f150. So i appreciate your comments, but i definately am looking to use this truck whether it be towing or just general work.

thanks again

The trucks do have great potential in the power department. If you like everything but the "power" of the f150, then I still think get the F-150. Buy a good handheld programmer and the truck, from the sounds of it, will do everything you want to do and then some.

An FX4 F-150 with the 3 power mods is still cheaper then the Titan.
