What is the purpose of this?

On my '04 Lariat Supercrew directly under the 3 buttons on the dash that control my information center display in the gauge cluster there are 3 or 4 small horizontal slits that resemble a vent. What is the purpose of this?

I think what your talking about is the microphone for the bluetooth. My gf has it on her Z4 right above the steering wheel. It basically let's her answer the phone and hear it through her stereo. Im pretty sure it is the reciever.

I think it is the thermostat for Climate control. I didn't look it up on mine but that is where it is on my wifes Pilot that also has climate control.

Maybe that's where the buzzer sound you get when you press the buttons comes from as well?

Lots of crazy guesses here.

Look, it's a sensor ok? Nothing more, nothing less.

You fart and the windows roll down automatically.
Try it if you don't believe me.
It's got to be a big one though, weak mini's won't trip the sensor.

Then mine's broken. My wife's 13 year old cousin should have set it off and rolled down all 4 windows when he first rode in the truck.
