New Tires For My 04 FX4 Crew
I'm about ready to replace the tires (18 inch BFG) with 45000 miles on them and am wondering what the experience has been with replacemint tires. I would like to go with something one size larger in width and height. I've had good luck with Michelin on a SUV in the past but don't know how they would do on my 150. I've still got the dreaded steering wheel nibble so I'm hoping that new tires will take care of that issue.

they are a bit pricey though, but cheaper than the bfg's

I have an 04 SCrew but it's just a plain Jane. I upgraded to the 265/70/17 Geolanders. They are great in wet weather. They look fabulous on the truck as it now looks like an FX4 and this size tire just makes the truck look right. The downside- fuel mileage dropped over 5 mpgs. I think it's probably due to the max air pressure of 35 versus the old Contis at 44. I have raised the pressure to 42 and it has improved across the spectrum. The 35 lb max and the tires would shudder on rough roads and the truck wallowed in the tires around corners. A lot of this has gone away with the higher air pressure but the 4.6 struggles to pull them. They are not a tire I would recommend. You might want to see what air pressure max is on your current tires if you are happy with the fuel mileage and make sure that the new tires are at that max pressure or more. I really wished I had opted for the Michelin LTXs. I have had great luck with them.
FWIW, my brother rides ranches all day. The only tire he can keep under his truck is the BFG KOs. The ranches are in South Texas and its a lot of cactus, hard brush, mesquite brush, rock, etc. The tires at 35,000 miles look like termites have had their way with them but they are only ones to get that far consistantly. If you drive off road a lot, these should be on your consider list.
