I am thinking of upgrading my XLT stock cluster with either an FX4 or Lariat cluster. I saw previous threads on doing this but have a question. When searching for a cluster to buy, do I have to be concerned with what year truck it comes out of? I know they have to be re-programmed to my truck but do I have to get one the same year as mine (2006) or will any 04+ work?? Also haven't seen this done yet but will a Lincoln Mark LT cluster work or will it not program right. Any help appreciated!

 

If you do a forum search ppl have resolved the issue of the cluster swap for 04-07.

 

Hey there... I did do a search and saw a few ppl that have done this but I didn't see any that state if the year of the cluster/truck had to be the same or not...

 

What i'm curious about is when the truck is "reprogrammed" for the cluster does it matter if the truck has a tune or not.

 

Good question about the yrs. To be honest I can't recall exactly what yr cluster I used, it was either an 04 or 05 into my 05. I guess there is a risk that something may have changed. However, from a cost side of things why would Ford change the cluster when there's not been any widespread problems with them? Pure speculation on my part. Perhaps check part numbers and see if anything changed from yr to yr.

I reset my truck back to stock before getting it programmed. Added tuner back on afterwards and haven't had any issues. Not resetting back to stock and having it programmed could result in a big mess, just easier to take the time and not worry.

I don't see why an LT cluster wouldn't work, but I've never heard of it being tried or done.
