Amsoil going in tonight!

I just got back from visiting my local Amsoil dealer. He loaded me up with 8 quarts (1 extra) of Amsoil 0w20 (ASM) and an EaO11 filter. This will be my 1st experience with Amsoil. This particular Amsoil oil (ASM) is touted as a 25,000mi/1yr oil. I only drive about 18,000 miles per year, so I won't get the full 25,000 miles out of it (not that I would anyway)... But hopefully I can get 1 year oil change intervals. I'll do oil analysis at 10,000 miles, and probably again around 14,000 miles.

Total cost for 8 qts of oil and the filter was $69. Not too bad if it lasts me a year.

Exactly! The less time I spend under my truck, the better.

I'll admit that I've been called worse (ok, much worse) than a fool... But I don't appreciate it within these forums. If you don't agree with my choice, then that's cool. But no need to call me foolish for it.

I do, it's been two years too. . . at least she doesn't mind my adiction to my vehicles. She actually supports it, she figures its less beer money. LOL

I'll let you know about the Royal Purple. I plan on using it in everything. When the time comes for the transmission, it'll be getting it as well. Soon as I get my gears and 500 miles come around, I'll switch to Royal Purple as well.

I'm trying not to be cruel to her... I bought the oil-equivilant of gold for her At least that's what my wallet said. Plus I'm going to do a few used oil analysis to make sure that the oil remains suitable... We'll see how it goes. If I see ANY hint that it could harm my truck, it'll be outta there. But if the UOA's show it to be performing very good (as I anticipate), then I'll let it run it's course.

Good choice Bud. I am putting Amsoil 5w20 through the Ford dealership (only one offered, I am guessing they don't want to lose business by offering a 25000 interval). But they did not recommend Amsoil fuel filter. Something to do with the oil pressure (if you going with a 18 K I would go with the amsoil one). Because of my shorter interval I will stick to motocraft filter. I will only get about 7500 miles on mine or six months (whichever comes first). A buddy of mine did put in the full syn 0w 30 in his car and got a good 1.5 mpg increase. Expect to see better fuel efficiency not much 1 mpg. but if you drive 18000 on it, the slight increase in fuel efficiency will pay for the amsoil oil and the amsoil filter. The 0W30 gets you about 35k before you need an oil change. Everyone in europe is using extended interval of at least 15k. In the US, you mention extended interval and ppl think you are fool. The oil companies are doing a great job brainwashing the masses.

I don't know if the issue is "extended interval" or "Amsoil". My second vehicle is a VW and Amsoil is not on VW's "approved" list. Amsoil's line is that they are so awesome they don't need to play VW's game... which kind of raises red flags with me, "If they are so great, getting aproved shouldn't be an issue."

Anyway, Mobil 1 is getting great reviews on every forum I go to, it supposedly can take extended intervals (however that's defined) and it's on the approved list.

I think the 25K interval could only be with the double filter system. The filter would be the weak link.

Amsoil is approved by Ford. That is good you checked for VW, you don't want to lose your warranty over amsoil. the other thing, Amsoil is not the only good synthetic out there. I stopped using Mobil 1 after I read at the danistheoilman.com that they changed the formula of their oil. Mobil is not going to fool hard working americans by selling lesser quality for the same price. Tons of ppl are doing Oil analysis of the oil they put in their engine and they have noticed a change of the oil analysis compared to the baseline. Mobil 1 Extended is the only decent oil they are offering worth the price they are charging. The rest of Mobil products is not worth the premium you re paying for them. But you are fine since you are using Mobil extended performance.
